Prep Baseball Report's IA Prospect I.D.- Quad Cities event took place on Sunday, April 29, 2018. The event was held at TBK Bank Sports Complex in Bettendorf, IA. The event featured prospects from the 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 classes who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff.

Pitcher EVALS

Ely Adams, 3B/OF/RHP, Pleasant Valley, 2019
5-foot-11, 190-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.02 runner. Compact build with present strength, balanced stance, short to contact with quick swing, consistently squares baseball with solid pop to pull side of field, pull approach with soft contact oppo, 82 mph exit velocity. 70 mph arm across infield & 69 mph arm strength from outfield, solid routes, fields out front, sure hands in outfield, lacks arm strength but is accurate to target. On mound; uptempo delivery, lands on stiff front leg, short guarded arm action. Fastball was 69-70 mph with varying action to plate. Inconsistent breaking ball shape. Changeup has flat action with average fade for strikes.

Reece Anderson, OF/RHP, Johnston, 2019
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 6.6 runner. Tall stance with high hand set, clean elevated path through contact, shows above avg. pop to pull side of field, 86 mph exit velocity. Above avg. arm, carry and accuracy to target, solid actions, plays with medium tempo in field, 88 mph arm from outfield. On mound; short balance point, lands slightly across body, with compact clean arm action. Fastball was 81-82 mph with varying action to plate. Showed early break with 11/5 shape on curveball. Changeup is thrown with stiff wrist and is elevated in zone with flat action.

Jared Beck, LHP, Davenport North, 2018
6-foot-11, 190-pound left-handed pitcher. #43 ranked player in Iowa 2018 class and Heartland CC commit. Long limbed pitcher who is starting to fill out frame and add strength. Rocker step into higher knee athletic balance point. Swings front leg down mound and delivers from clean ¾ arm slot. Fastball was 80-82 mph; thrown on downhill plane with varying action at the plate. 1/7 breaking ball has early break with larger shape for strikes. Flashed an above avg. changeup; through inconsistent, should continue to improve and will be usable at the college level.

Lucas Bixby, RHP, Central Dewitt, 2019
6-foot-4, 195-pound right-handed pitcher. Larger projectable frame on mound. Short rocker step into tuck and turn balance point and shows body control. Delivers from high ¾ slot with extension and finish to plate. Fastball was straight with flashes of varying action at 78-80 mph. Lands breaking ball for strikes with avg. depth and 11/5 shape. Solid late movement and varying action on changeup. Projects physically, clean arm action, and should continue to add velocity as he matures and gains strength.

Will Christophersen, RHP, Pleasant Valley, 2018
6-foot-4, 195-pound right-handed pitcher. #7 ranked player in IA 2018 class. Committed as a pitcher Michigan State University. On mound; controlled tempo to balance point, explodes down mound with clean arm action, has extension out front and ball jumps through zone with late life. Fastball was 87-89 mph with varying late action to plate. Breaking ball has tight spin with sweeping 10/4 shape and above avg. late depth. Changeup has explosive late running action and is an above avg. pitch that he will be able to utilize at the college level. 7.1 runner with 83 mph exit velocity and threw 93 mph from outfield. Rolling load, hitchy stride, solid athlete, mid/pull approach. Long and loose in field, above avg. arm, has carry and accuracy while keeping his throws online to target.

Evan Crawford, 1B/OF/RHP, Pleasant Valley, 2018
6-foot-2, 205-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. #46 ranked player in IA 2018 class and Missouri S&T commit. 6.93 runner. Body load with leg kick trigger, fast hands, shows power to pull side with hard contact to all fields, 81 mph exit velocity. Aggressive routes with athleticism in field, plays through baseball, long arm action with carry and accuracy to target, 83 mph arm strength from outfield. On mound; delivers from varying arm slots creating deception to hitter. Fastball was 77-80 mph with varying action to plate. 11/5 breaking ball is landed for strikes with avg. depth. Shows late run and sink on changeup thrown with good arm speed.

Andrew Doyle, RHP, Pleasant Valley, 2020
5-foot-8, 150-pound right-handed pitcher. Small rocker step into balance point, short arm action, shows rhythm and tempo in delivery. Consistently works bottom of zone and throws high percentage of strikes at 74-76 mph. Curveball has small short break for strikes with 11/5 shape. Shows above avg. run and sink on changeup. Strike thrower that pounds zone with quality action on 3 pitches.

Caleb Evans, 3B/RHP, Davenport Central, 2019
6-foot-2,180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.69 runner. Pre-set weight, leg kick trigger, shows above avg. pop in bat to pull side, lift in swing plane with slight stiffer actions, 83 mph exit velocity. Sure hands, high fielding position, lacks infield footwork, avg. arm action with accuracy to bag, 76 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; long rocker step into overhead delivery. Compact arm action, upright on release, with some extension to plate. Fastball was straight at 77-79 mph with flashes of cut action. Shows tighter spin on breaking ball, 11/5 shape, and is released out front with extension to plate. Avg. feel for changeup, firm velocity, with occasional cutting action.

Aidan Fitzgibbon, RHP/OF, Pleasant Valley, 2020
5-foot-9, 140-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; controlled rocker step into athletic balance point, lands inline to catcher, slight wrap on back side of arm path. Fastball showed occasional downhill plane at 71-73 mph. Showed ability to spin breaking ball with sharper break. Changeup showed average action and fade at 63-65 mph. 7.72 runner. Crouched stance, line drive swing plane, shows ability to use whole field, lacks pop in bat, spray hitter with consistent solid contact, 65 mph exit velocity. Average actions in field, moves with shorter steps and choppy rhythm, fields routine, elevated throws to target, 73 mph arm strength from outfield.

Carter Furness, RHP/SS, Bettendorf, 2021
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; short rocker step into higher athletic tuck and turn balance point, clean arm action with easy effort, ball jumps out of hand, and fastball was 78-79 mph. Solid arm speed and feel for changeup. Breaking ball has solid 11/5 spin with avg. depth. 7.15 runner. Wide stance with body load, shows ability to drive ball from oppo gap to pull side, solid present strength, clean bat path, shows solid bat speed with developing power, 86 mph exit velocity. Athletic in field, soft hands, developing footwork, ability to throw from multiple angles, solid overall actions, 74 mph arm strength across infield.

Kellen Hornbuckle, 1B/LHP, Pleasant Valley, 2021
6-foot-2, 220-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Physical with solid athleticism for 2021 grad. 7.35 runner. Pre-set weight, slight hand rhythm, present strength, shows pop in bat, pull approach with soft oppo contact, 88 mph exit velocity. Solid fielding position, sure hands, works through ball, solid receiver around bag, 69 mph arm across infield. On mound; short rocker step into crouched tuck and turn balance point, short arm action, lands inline with catcher. Fastball was 72-75 mph with varying action to plate. 62-64 mph breaking ball has early 1/7 shape with short release point out front. Changeup has avg. fade and sink; thrown at 67-70 mph.

Dalton Hout, LHP, Pleasant Valley, 2020
5-foot-11, 200-pound left-handed pitcher. Square sturdy build. Rolls into short balance point, hitchy arm action, opens front side early, and delivers from over the top slot. Fastball was 67-69 mph thrown on flat plane with slight running action to plate. Shows ability to land 1/7 breaking ball with avg. depth for strikes. Changeup is thrown with avg. arm speed and has wobbly shape and action to plate.

Ever Jens, RHP/OF, Davenport Central, 2020
5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; Uptempo delivery, high athletic balance point, collapses down mound, lands inline to catcher with open front foot. Fastball is straight with flat plane at 78-79 mph for strikes. Shows tight spin on breaking ball with sharp 11/5 break. Changeup is firm but flashes fading action. 7.25 runner. Square stance, leg lift trigger, line drive swing plane, contact type hitter, hard contact to middle of field, consistently barrels baseball, 80 mph exit velocity. Good footwork and fielding position, fields out front, stiffer arm action, avg. momentum through release with elevated throws to target, 79 mph arm strength from outfield.

Cole Kaufman, LHP/1B, Waukee, 2019
6-foot, 190-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. #66 ranked player in IA 2019 class. On mound; tempo to delivery, longer draw straight back in arm path, compact through release. Strike thrower with good feel for zone with fastball at 79-81 mph with varying action to plate. Breaking ball is 66-68 mph with 1/7 shape and lands for strikes. Changeup is 70-71 and is thrown near fastball arm speed with solid fade and sink. 7.12 runner. Tall athletic setup, easy leg kick trigger, lift in swing plane, stiffer finish through extension, pull approach with solid pop in bat, 83 mph exit velocity. Shows solid footwork and actions, sure hands, receives well around bag, 83 mph arm strength across infield.

Dreyton LaVeine, C/RHP, West Burlington, 2020
5-foot-10, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.58 runner. Square stance with leg kick trigger, longer load with arm bar, stays on and through contact well, shows loft power to pull side of field with ability to make hard line drive contact to opposite side, 86 mph exit velocity. Sure hands behind plate, solid low target, works through plate, clean exchanges, short arm action, solid accuracy to bag, 75 mph arm strength with 2.1-2.19 pop times. On mound; controlled tempo on mound, short rocker step, higher leg kick balance point, medium stride down mound and lands with open front foot. Short arm action producing 79-81 mph fastballs with varying action and occasional life. Higher spin rate on breaking ball with early 11/5 shape out of hand. Wobbly action on changeup with avg. velocity.

Drew Logel, 1B/RHP, Muscatine, 2019
6-foot-4, 205-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.5 runner. Tall open stance, leg kick trigger, lower hand slot, works up and through at contact, shows pop in bat, hardest contact to middle of field, 90 mph exit velocity. Tends to field flat footed, fields deep in stance, sure hands, avg. overall actions on left-side of infield, 78 mph arm across infield. On mound; higher tuck and turn balance point, stab down on back side, has to work to get arm out front. Fastball has running action to plate at 80-83 mph. Tends to rush on breaking ball but has ability to land for strikes with solid 11/5 shape and depth. Changeup is thrown near fastball arm speed with avg. fade and sink.

Payton Mangler, RHP/2B, Maquoketa, 2021
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; short rocker step into controlled balance point, short arm action, lands open to plate with short stride down mound. Fastball was 66-69 mph with avg. action to plate. Early break with rolling shape on 11/5 breaking ball. Solid fade on changeup thrown with stiff wrist. 8.45 runner. Open stance double tap leg trigger, clean path after complicated load and stride, showed best contact to opposite field, avg. pop in bat, 73 mph exit velocity. Sure hands with avg. feet, high fielding position, long release on throws, has accuracy to bag, 68 mph arm across infield.

Quinn Morris, LHP, Muscatine, 2018
6-foot-5, 250-pound left-handed pitcher. #105 ranked player in Iowa 2018 class and Kaskaskia CC commit. Large durable build with present strength. Rocker step into upright medium balance point, works up and over front shoulder tilt, lands closed to plate, with clean short arm action. Fastball shows downhill plane at 77-78 mph with varying action to plate. Larger 1/7 break on curveball and shows solid ability to land for strikes. Avg. action and fade on changeup thrown near fastball arm speed.

Tucker Nauman, RHP, Western Dubuque, 2022
6-foot, 135-ppound right-handed pitcher. Rocker step into medium balance point and shows good body control for age. Swing front leg down mound landing inline to catcher. Short arm swing and delivers with pie arm action. Fastball was 67-68 mph with varying action to plate. Early break with avg. spin on 11/5 curveball. Shows above avg. feel for changeup; thrown for strikes with fading action at plate.

Daniel Powers, RHP, Davenport Assumption, 2018
6-foot-3, 180-pound right-handed pitcher. #10 ranked player in Iowa 2018 class and Kansas State commit. Lean athletic build and projects to continue to add weight and strength. Shows tempo in delivery; long arm action with slight wrap on back-side, works up and over high front side, and lands inline to catcher. Fastball has late running action from high ¾ slot at 85-87 mph for strikes. Throws two breaking balls- a slower curveball with 12/6 shape and a harder 11/5 slider with solid shape and above avg. velocity. Changeup is an above avg. pitch; thrown with fastball arm speed and has deception.

Kolby Rich, SS/RHP, Dunkerton, 2020
6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.71 runner. Athletic setup, tends to fall over plate, shows pop to pull side of field, clean bat path with lift through contact, 75 mph exit velocity. Plays low to ground, soft hands, works around and through, solid fielding actions, stiff arm action lacking carry on throws, 73 mph arm across infield. On mound; rocker step into medium balance point, short arm action, lands open to plate falling off to first base side. Flat fastball at 72-73 mph with slight running action to plate. Breaking ball had avg. shape at 61-63 mph and changeup was 65-67 mph.

Nick Scanlon, RHP, Johnston, 2020
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed pitcher. Short rocker step into uptempo delivery. Medium stride down mound and lands inline to catcher. Short quick arm path delivering fastballs at 81-83 mph with late running action at plate. Breaking ball has small shape, tight spin, and late break. Changeup is firm with flat action.

Jared Simpson, LHP, Clinton, 2018
6-foot-3, 190-pound left-handed pitcher. #28 ranked player in Iowa 2018 class and Iowa Western CC commit. Beginning to fill out frame with increased strength in lower half. Shows rhythm and tempo in delivery. Hides baseball behind body and ball jumps out of hand with easy effort. Fastball jumps through zone at 85-87 mph with late running action to arm-side of plate. Tends to leave breaking ball arm-side but should be readily corrected in college. Shows late run and sink on changeup thrown at fastball arm speed.

Hunter Underwood, RHP/3B, WDM Valley, 2019
5-foot-10, 178-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; long rocker step into crouched balance point, one piece arm action, lands with open front foot, and has finish to plate. Fastball was 76-78 mph with varying action to plate. Breaking ball lacks consistent shape and break and needs to be further developed. Changeup showed average action and fade at 66-69 mph. 7.33 runner. Early hand rhythm, square stance, slight leg kick trigger, short swing, minimal use of lower half, 80 mph exit velocity. Late glove presentation, sits to field, stops to throw, 73 mph arm across infield.

Sam Young, RHP, Dowling Catholic, 2019
6-foot-3, 195-pound right-handed pitcher. #52 ranked player in IA 2019 class. On mound; controlled rocker step into medium balance point, hides ball behind body, works up and over slight front shoulder tilt. Fastball has late running action for strikes at 81-83 mph. Shows ability to land 11/5 breaking ball with varying depth of break and 11/5 shape. Changeup is firm with flat action for strikes. 7.08 runner with 91 mph exit velocity. Open stance with leg kick trigger, shoulder load, above avg. pop in bat to pull side, launch angle oriented swing with steep swing plane through contact.
