Not yet half way through its high school experience, the Class of 2020 seems eager to hurry off to college, as more than half of the newly expanded Top 300 has verbally committed to universities across the country. This vicious pace of recruiting has forced recruiters to make earlier decisions, and while talks of change have heated up considerably, change will not happen without action.

THE COLLEGE CALENDAR: PART II - WINTER BREAK

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

The college calendar and the way different programs approach their time on the field can give prospects a feel for a coaching staff.   One of the most important sections of the calendar, in getting ready for the spring season, is the winter.  Players, and teams, that commit to their preparation during the winter months put themselves in position to maximize their spring season.

In The Weeds: MID-ATLANTIC SOUTHPAWS

Shooter Hunt
National Crosschecker

Left-handed pitchers are always at a premium, and college coaches are constantly looking for southpaws to add to their program’s staff. Kicking off the start of a three week series on left-handed pitchers from across the PBR coverage area, In the Weeds checks in on six uncommitted 2019’s from the Mid-Atlantic. Recruiters will want to take each name down as they map out their spring/summer schedule as they each feature feel for pitching, quick arms, and the possibility of making a jump in the near future.

COLLEGE PROSPECT MAILBAG

David Seifert
Director of College Scouting

Have a question about college prospects? David Seifert, the Director of College Scouting for Prep Baseball Report, is here to answer them. Email David Seifert at [email protected] or tweet at him @dseifertd1PBR.

Who are the top 10 college prospects for this year’s draft?
In no particular order, I would include hitters 2B/SS Nick Madrigal (Oregon State), SS Jeremy Eierman(Missouri State), CF Travis Swaggerty (South Alabama) and OF Griffin Conine (Duke). On the pitching side, lefties Ryan Rolison (Mississippi) and Shane McClanahan (South Florida) are two of the top arms. Right-handed pitchers include Casey Mize(Auburn), Logan Gilbert (Stetson) and two from Florida: Brady Singer and Jackson Kowar. Others who are currently considered by the industry to have top 10 college prospect potential include left-handed pitchers Tim Cate (Connecticut) and Connor Pilkington (Mississippi State), as well as OF Greyson Jenista (Wichita State). Finally, a few favorites of PBR/D1 Baseball include three outfielders: sophomore eligible Zach Watson (Louisiana State), Steele Walker (Oklahoma) and Jameson Hannah (Dallas Baptist; video below). We will release our updated PBR/D1 Baseball prospect rankings in early February.
