Scouting Report
7/25/17 - 6-foot-2, 210-pound right-handed hitting catcher with present strength. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and good balance. Line drive hitter with an uphill swing path and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 91 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.80. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Accurate throws with carry throwing 77 mph out of the crouch and popping 2.01-2.12.
5/13/17 - 6-foot-2, 210-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top slot. Slower transfer with a long exchange, gains ground towards second. Popped 2.11-2.26 and threw 79 mph from the crouch. Showed flexibility in the lower half receiving. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short lie lift stride. Uphill path with a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 93 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.72.
8/12/16 - Large frame, 6-foot-2, 210-pound catcher, raw strength. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, short stride. Showed bat strength, opposite field contact, occasionally late timing. 81 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is loose and short, over the top slot, 73 mph out of the crouch. 2.14-2.27 pop times. Footwork can improve pop times, 5.12 runner down the line.
6/22/16 - 6-foot-2, 225-pound right-handed hitting catcher with a solid, strong frame. At the plate hits from a wide base with a short, heel lift stride with good balance. Short path with a fast bat. 82 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.83. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Fluid footwork behind the plate. Throws showed carry form the crouch at 74 mph. Popped 2.15-2.3.
10/24/15 - 6-foot-1, 210-pound, right-handed hitting catcher. At the plate hits from a balanced, slightly open setup with a short load to back side and heel lift stride. Gap to gap hitter with a short swing path. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.02. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top arm slot. High receiver in drills. Popped 2.18-2.29 and threw 71 mph from the crouch.
3/15/15- 5-foot-11, 200-pound catcher, shows some strength. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short heel lift stride. Strong swing, made hard contact, occasionally lunges. Hands stay inside, some opposite field tendency. 78 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm plays over the top, 67 mph out of the crouch. Direction and footwork can improve, sits high coming out of the crouch. 2.29-2.40 pop times. 8.09 runner in the 60.
OUTLOOK
Pawlak has steadily gotten bigger and stronger over the years and his arm strength has followed. This summer Pawlak took a leap forward with his catch and release, improving his pop times with a quicker transfer while still maintaining above average arm strength.
