Joe Capretta, C, Aurora HS, Class of 2018

PBR: Why did you choose Kent State?

Capretta: It was a pretty easy choice. Kent State is a great program with a winning tradition. They have a great coaching staff and great facilities. Academically, it is a great school and I really liked the campus.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Capretta: Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Slippery Rock

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you and how did your relationship develop?

Capretta: I’m not really sure where they first saw me. Coach Duncan contacted me after the Top Gun World Series and that is when we started talking about Kent State Baseball in more detail.

PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 baseball program?

Capretta: I feel very fortunate. One of my goals growing up was to play Division 1 college baseball. I always loved playing at Schoonover Stadium, so I am really excited about being a part of the Kent State Baseball program.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Capretta: Team Ohio Pro Select. Overall, the whole experience was great on and off the field. I played with some great teammates. If I had to narrow it down to one play, it is when I threw out Joe Gray Jr. from the Evoshield Canes in Raleigh. He could flat out fly and was probably the best all-around player I saw this summer.

PBR:  What person has the great impact on your baseball career and why?

Capretta: That’s a tough question because there are so many people that impacted my career along the way. If I had to name one, it would be my father. He got me started in baseball, practiced with me and supported me throughout the years.

PBR: What were your stats last spring season?

Capretta: BA: .375 HR: 1 RBI: 14 OBP: .493
