By Justin Burgess

The Jesuit Tigers advanced to the Saladino Tournament Championship by taking down the Strawberry Crest Chargers 3-0. The win was highlighted by 2017 RHP Drew Martin who threw a complete game one hitter and has now thrown eleven innings in the tournament and given up zero runs on only two hits. 2015 OF and North Carolina Signee Cole Gibbs led the offense by going 2-4 with 2 RBI’s.

The first three innings of the game were scoreless until 2015 OF and Duke Signee Kennie Taylor doubled to right-center to bring home 2016 INF/OF/P Nico Baldor who singled. Taylor was then driven in by Gibbs who reached on an error. The Tigers scored their last run in the fifth when Baldor led off with a double and was then driven in by Gibbs who lined a single to left.

The Chargers broke up Martin’s no hitter with two outs in the sixth when 2016 INF Logan Fernandez hit a seeing-eye single through the 5-6 hole. Martin then retired the next batter and closed the door in the seventh to give Jesuit the win and a chance for the Saladino Championship trophy.
