It's Monday May 13, 2024, and another high school baseball has come to pass.  It seems like the high school baseball season goes by faster and faster each year, and with this being my fourth year at the helm of Prep Baseball Louisiana, this season definitely went by too quick.  As with every year, the 2024 season concluded this past weekend with the 2024 LHSAA State Tournament at McMurray Park in Sulphur, LA, where ten state champions were crowned, across the Non-Select and Select sides, with five divisions in each.  This year's LHSAA State Tournament was a memorable one, as many players left their mark for their respective high school programs with clutch performances.  There's also another reason that this 2024 season was special for me, and that's because of the staff that we put together for this spring.  Not many people know this, but for my first three seasons covering high school baseball in Louisiana, I was essentially a "one-man" show trying to cover every nook and cranny of the state.  As hard as I tried to cover the state alone, it was never enough, so after the completion of the 2023 high school season, I made it my mission to put together a staff that could help me give the players in our great state the coverage that they deserved.  I want to personally thank Tyler Leary, Davis Johnson, and Addison Armand for their hard work and dedication this season, because without them, this season wouldn't have been near the success that it was.  In total, our staff was able to see a combined 74 teams, across 85 games this spring, and we didn't miss one game at this year's State Tournament.  I know I'm biased, but I am confident in saying that there is nobody who gets out and covers the state of Louisiana like we do.  With that being said, it's time to close the book on the 2024 season.  Below, we review the Division II (Non-Select & Select) LHSAA State Tournament.  

2024 LHSAA STATE TOURNAMENT REVIEW

DIVISION II (NON-SELECT)

The 2023 Lutcher Bulldogs entered the playoffs as the #1 seed, but their season was abrubtly ended in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs, so we had a feeling that this year's team would be playing with something to prove and that's exactly what happened.  Lutcher defeated defending State Champion Iowa in the semifinals by a score of 5-0 and then beat North Vermilion 4-0 on Saturday to win the Division II Non-Select State Title.  Former Future Gamer 2025 Marshall Louque showed up on the big stage, especially on Saturday, as he tossed a complete-game shutout with 1 BB and 8 K's, and also hit a mammoth three-run homerun.  In the State Title Game against North Vermilion, 2024 RHP Quinn Smith got the start and turned in a quality outing for the Bulldogs.  The Southeastern Louisiana recruit tossed a complete-game shutout with 2 BB and 8 K's against the Patriots.  Head Coach Ryan Jensen and company got revenge for last year's quarterfinal loss, finishing this season with a 31-8 record and a Non-Select Division II State Title.

DIVISION II (SELECT)

Teurlings Catholic had one of the younger teams in the state this season, so many thought it would be tough for them to win a State Title this year, but that's exactly what they did.  In what turned out to be one of the best games of the week, the #2 seed Rebels took down the #1 seed St. Louis Catholic in an 11 inning thriller.  2025 RHP Jace Garber gave Teurlings Catholic a nice start, as he went 5 innings and gave up 1 R and 0 ER on 2 H with 4 BB and 6 K's.  Then, the Rebels turned the ball over to 2026 LHP Evan Vincent, who just returned back to the team from a multi-week absence due to an illness, and he was spectacular.  Pitching out of tough jam after tough jam, the uncommitted sophomore southpaw made big pitch after big pitch to keep Teurlings Catholic in the game, until they finally took the 3-2 lead in the 11th.  Vincent toed the rubber in the bottom of the 11th by inducing a groundout, strikeout, then a walk, before striking out the final hitter of the game to seal Teurlings Catholic's Select Division II State Title.  As mentioned above, the Rebels were a young team this year and return a lot next season, so we fully expect Teurlings Catholic to continue to be a contender in the years to come.
