Josh Rahn names his school; Illinois State lands another high-level transfer

The top unsigned pitcher is now off the board after RHP Josh Rahn (Schaumburg HS) has committed to Judson University recently. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Rahn is currently ranked No. 49 in Illinois’ 2014 class and No. 250 overall.

Rahn emerged at the PBR Unsigned Senior Games in August as a high-interest prospect after his fastball topped at 90 mph, easily sitting in the 87-88 range with late life through the strike zone. He also showed feel for a 75-77 slider and a 76-78 changeup that had arm-side sink. Coming from a high three-quarter slot, Rahn has an athletic delivery and his arm is quick and clean. He worked downhill well.

Once again, Judson has landed a top-level prospect. Last year, Judson signed PBR first-team All-State RHP Matt Starai (St. Charles East HS), among others. The Elgin school also made a big splash in 2012 when it signed ambidextrous pitcher Ryan Perez (Westminster Christian HS), who was ranked No. 14 in Illinois.

+ Illinois State’s holiday season continues to get better and better. Less than a week after the Redbirds landed big-time transfers INF/RHP Ryan Koziol and 1B Nick Kowalczuk, Illinois State received a commitment from another high-level transfer, this time C/INF Zack Soria.

A standout at St. Rita HS, Soria was the No. 8-ranked prospect in 2012, and signed at Louisville. Last summer, he transferred to Mesa CC in Arizona, where he will play in the spring. Soria will be eligible at Illinois State in 2015. Both Koziol and Kowalczuk will also be eligible at Illinois State in 2015.

Soria is a top-level defensive catcher who also played shortstop at St. Rita. Soria was a three-year starter for the Mustangs.
