KS HS Power 20 Rankings: Week 5

Andy Urban
KS/OK/MO/AR/CO/Creekside Scouting Supervisor

The Kansas high school baseball season kicked off on March 17th, opening day for regular season action under KSHSAA regulations. Leading up to opening day, we published our team previews ahead of and during the begging of the 2023 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, counting down through the official PBR Kansas Preseason Power 20 Rankings.

While much of the initial lists are weighted on previous performances, prospects, and projections, updates will be inherently tied to the production on the field. Simply put: wins and championships matter. A human element to the list will still provide important information on the nuances and intricacies that the season bestows. Whether it is a close loss in a rivalry game, a five-game in three days gauntlet, or a bout of sickness that depletes a lineup, you can count on PBR to critically examine the playing field at all times.

Following Opening Day, our scouts will be out and about covering the 2023 season and will be publishing scout notes and additional in-season content along the way, like Power 20 updates, Diamond Notes, Scout Blogs, and Player of the Week awards.

  • Olathe South remains undefeated and No. 1 as the continue to have one of the best runs scored vs runs allowed ratios in the state despite playing a very difficult schedule.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas looks stronger and stronger rising to No. 3 as they return some firepower to the mound.
  • Manhattan jumps into the top 10. Though they have not played nearly the strength of schedule as others in the power 20, the continue to win their games in convincing fashion.
  • Free State continues to rise as the dominate on the mound and defensively while getting timely hitting.
  • Hesston is on deck as our first ever 3A team as they tout 3 advanced future college arms and manufacture runs.
  • Clay Center moves up to 15 as the continue to completely dominate every fascist of the game and have yet to really be challenged.
