KS Rankings Update: 2021s

The 2021 Kansas Class continues to prove they are one of the best groups that the Sunflower State has seen in recent history. The top of the class continues to jump up draft boards. The top position players in the class showcased along side many of the other top players in the country and stood out at the super 60. Below we take an in-depth look at the top five players in the class, the top five uncommitted players in the class, and a look at the top 10.

The Top 5

Ben Kudrna RHP / RHP / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2021

One of the fastest rising arms in the country, the 6-foot-3 and well build Kudrna has always shows a clean delivery and the ability to throw consistent strikes, but the LSU commit has seen his draft stock skyrocket as he has began to toss his fastball in the mid 90s as well as adding consistent depth to the slider giving him a real three pitch mix that will play at the professional level. 

 

Kendall Diggs 3B / SS / St. Thomas Aquinas, KS / 2021

One of the most consistent hitters in the country over the last three year, the Arkansas commit has not only continued to produce barrels at a rapid rate, but has also added pop which he showed off at the recent Super 60 pro-case. An advanced defender at third base as well, Diggs will be a constant draw for pro scouts all spring.

Carson Liggett RHP / 1B / Blue Valley, KS / 2021

The Louisville commit boasts a three pitch mix that he mixes into any count against right-handers and left-handers. That mix includes a fastball that he commands to both sides of the plate at 90-93 touching 94 at times and an elite swing and miss changup.The right-hander will have the feel to help Louisville right away unless he sets his sights on pro ball. 

Jackson Nicklaus SS / 3B / Blue Valley , KS / 2021

A strong-bodied and athletic infielder, Nicklaus had a breakout summer and continued to build momentum with a solid showing a the Super 60. The left-handed hitter shows an efficient and pretty swing with lift and barrel control. Defensively, Oklahoma commit is a clean defender with big arm strength across the diamond. 

Chase Jans OF / SS / Blue Valley, KS / 2021

One of the most well rounded athletes in the country, the Kansas commit has shown a laser timed 60 as low as 6.45, an outfield velo of 92, and an exit velo of 100 with wood off the tee and 101 in BP. Still adding polish to his game, Jans has a very high ceiling and will be a prospect to follow for pro scouts.  

 

Top 5 Uncommitted 

 

Carson Hornung SS / 3B / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2021

The recent SEC de-commit is one of the top uncommitted players in the country. The left-handed hitter has added physicality to his game to go with an impressive left-handed swing with some length and plenty of bat speed. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Hornung looks the part on the left side of the infield with clean and fluid actions.

 

Mason Turney SS / 2B / Eisenhower, KS / 2021

A quick twitch and slick fielding middle infielder, Turney shows the range, hands, and feet to play on the dirt right away at the next level. Turney also runs a 6.77 60 and flashes some pop from the right-side. 

Joshua Holmes OF / 3B / Shawnee Mission West, KS / 2021

One of the most quick twitch athletes in the state, Holmes' numbers speak for themselves. The right-handed hitter posted a 91 mph exit velo, max bat speed of 76, runs a 6.74, and shows an accurate arm at 84 from the outfield. 

 

Alexander Carrillo RHP / Free State, KS / 2021

The most projectable uncommitted arm in the state, Carrillo is a lean and long 6-foot-5 who is new to the mound and already up to 85 on the mound. 

 

Tyler Leachner RHP / 3B / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2021

A square shouldered 6-foot-1 frame with room to add size and strength, Leachner fills up the strike zone featuring a fastball in the mid-80s and a fading changup in the mid-70s.
