Kern County Week In Review (CA)

Brian Stevens

Kern County, CA - I was able to get out and see some players in Kern County that caught my eye. Below are notes and video on a couple 2019 players and a 2022 Catcher that will want to be put on radars.

Standout Performers

2019 SS Jose Ruiz (Ridgeview). Uncommitted. At 5-11 tall and 185 pounds has plus bat speed, gap to gap power, above average speed. His first plate appearance was a triple to right center. Instinctive player on defense where he shows excellent reads off the bat allowing him to position himself to front baseballs out in front of himself. Shows enough arm strength to make all throws from any angle with accuracy. Plays under control. I project at the next level he will be at third base or even second base. Was 2-4 with a triple and double.
2019 RHP Kaden Sheedy (Stockdale). Cal Poly commit.  At 6-0 tall and 200 pounds is a very dominating figure on the mound.  His fastball that day was 90-92 MPH with good downward plane. Curveball was 81-83 MPH with a 12-6 movement. Kade will throw the fastball up in the zone to change the eye level of the hitter when he needed to.  Controlled the running game with a slide step. Average time to home with the side step 1.30. Threw six innings with seven strikeouts and allowed two earned runs vs BHS. On the season he is 2-0 with a 1.75 era with 30 strikeouts.
2022 C Logun Clark (Taft). Uncommitted. Has firmly inserted himself into the catching position at Taft High School. At 6-0 tall and 175 pounds, there is still room to grown into the body. He has wide shoulders and a strong lower half.  With quiet and soft hands he will beat most pitches to the location. Does not have a problem handling big-time velocity. Above average blocking skills and recovers quickly to the ball. Takes control of the game and the pitching staff.  Arm strength is average with pop times in between the inning of 2.07 – 2.14. There were no in-game stolen bases. At the plate, there is a lot to like from the right side. He is looking to drive the ball from gap to gap. He has shown some power early in the season.  The power will come later as he grows into the body. Very disciplined at the plate and does not chase very many bad pitches. Has quick hands to the ball. Has a slightly open stance with hands in a neutral position at the shoulders. Was 3-4 in viewing.
