JUCO programs across the state of Maryland began preseason practices back in early January. As the calendar quickly turns and with several teams getting ready to open up their 2019 campaigns in the next few weeks, we begin our coverage of the Maryland JUCO Conference with a preseason preview of all fourteen schools. In each preview, we will take a look back at the 2018 season, examine key players that have moved on or left the program, look at some new faces and key players for the upcoming season, and finally take a sneak peak at whats ahead for the 2019 season. We continue our preseason previews with a look at the Cecil College Seahawks.

2019 Season Snapshot

The Seahawks enter 2019 looking to bounce back from what was a disappointing 14-33 season in 2018. Perennially one of the stronger programs in the Maryland JUCO Conference, Cecil was hit by a rash of injuries and illnesses throughout the season making it hard for them to find consistency. Head coach Charlie O'Brien returns ace RHP Jaily Paredes for this season to anchor the staff and joining him will be returning sophomore RHP Zachary Strong. Strong made made 16 appearances for the Seahawks on the mound last season working 30 innings for some valuable experience. With William Lorman (17 appearances), Kyle Hodgson (5 GS, 35 IP), and Troy Thomas (7 GS, 35 IP) having moved on, Paredes and Strong will need to lead a fairly young pitching staff in 2019.

At the plate, Cecil loses three NJCAA All-Region XX DII members in Jordan Yoder (1st Team), Joseph Bagnerise III (2nd Team), and Andrew Schutt (Honorable Mention). Sophomore returners Shawn Dulin (INF), Joseph Munoz (OF), Tyler Robinson (INF), and Michael Worthington (INFOF) will be asked to lead the offense as Cecil looks return to their old ways of contending for the Maryland JUCO Conference and NJCAA Region XX DII Championship in 2019.
