With some private schools already underway, we turn our attention to our annual conference and team previews. Today, we will highlight the twelve schools in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) "B" Conference and break down key players to watch throughout the high school season.

Team Breakdown

The Lakers key losses of Jack Fishel (Cal Tech), Harry Genth (Haverford), Charlie Godin and JT Windle will open up plenty of opportunities for the likes of outfielders Kaden Lymon and Braeden Hammett, as well as corner infield power hitters Jack Corrado and Owen Crowley to take leadership this season. Matthew Richmond looks to be the ace of the staff and watch for Freshman Mark Windle to give the Lakers some well needed innings both on the bump and at the plate.

Look for a big season out of two-way Sophomore Travis Smith, who will be relied on heavily to get it done on both sides of the ball.

Team Breakdown

The Eagles enter 2022 having one of the most balanced rosters in the MIAA “B” Conference. Led by Junior catcher Nick Pratt at the dish, Coach Selmer has a deep lineup full of upper and lower classmen. Look for first basemen Anders Liimatainen and Logan Frazier to bring thump throughout the lineup behind Pratt, with Riley Handwerger, Christopher Kokoski and Freshmen Jacob Williams and Andrew Harris to provide consistent at-bats all season long. On the bump, the Eagles won’t be able to “replace” Travis Garnett (Maryland), Alex Seidleck (Wilson) and Evan Selmer (UMBC), however will need some younger guys to step up and fill that void. Frazier looks to be one of the horses coach Selmer will call on in big games, while Liimatainen, Jacob Cresanto, Joseph Emery, and Bradley DeMoss should provide valuable innings on the bump this season.

Team Breakdown

The Eagles enter the 2022 season moving from the “A” conference to the “B”, which should provide well needed experience for the players on the roster. After a tough season a year ago, coach Tuneski will rely heavily on his upperclassmen leadership on both sides of the ball to turn the tide.

William Pershin (Sr.) RHP (Marietta)

Top Position Players

David Chandler (Jr.) OF
Ben Flood (Soph.) C
E.J. Lowry (Jr.) INF
Griffin Puvel (Jr.) OF
Josh Skowronski (Jr.) 1B (Kentucky)

Team Breakdown

Recent University of Kentucky commit Josh Skowronski will lead the charge for the Vikings in 2022, followed by some really talented players on both sides of the ball. A three headed monster in Seniors Cannon Coleman, William Pershin and Junior two-way E.J. Lowry will get the bulk of the innings on the bump this season and look to repeat their success from just a year ago. Skowronski will bring the thump in the Vikings lineup with plenty of talent around him in fellow juniors David Chandler, Lowry, Griffin Puvel and Sophomore Ben Flood. Success for the Vikings this season will rely heavily on their Upperclassmen, and with another year of experience for the Juniors and Seniors, we believe Saint John's Catholic Prep will be an exciting team to watch in 2022.

Cameron Nelson (Jr.) OF (Wake Forest)
John Padousis (Sr.) C (Stevenson)

Team Breakdown

The Crusaders enter the 2022 season with a ton of experience and talent throughout the roster. Wake Forest commit Cameron Nelson looks to be one of the leaders on both sides of the ball this year, as he will get a bulk of the innings on the bump, and be one of the table setters for the Crusaders at the plate. Intriguing Juniors in Alex Cromwell, Aiden Gould, and Hayden Hair add depth throughout the pitching rotation and another year of experience should bode well for the success of St. Paul's. Stevenson University commit John Padousis will bring consistent quality at-bats and be a solid backstop behind the dish, with the likes of Cromwell, Zachary Felton, Hair and Charles Konkolics adding depth throughout the lineup.
