May 29 Regional Tournament Scores and Highlights

Several teams punched their tickets to the State Tournament last evening.  Here are your scores and highlights from all the Regional Tournament action across the Bluegrass state last evening.

1st Region Championship

Lone Oak 6  Paducah Tilghman 3
Sam Goode went 2-2 and scored 2 runs, and Drew Schmitt drove in 2 runs to lead Lone Oak.  Zach Roethemeyer scattered 6 hits and allowed no earned runs in going the distance with 7 K’s.

Lone Oak advances to face Central Hardin June 4 at 8:30 PM in the State Tournament at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.

2nd Region Championship

Henderson County 15  Christian County 2 (6 innings)

Henderson County advances to face Letcher County Central  June 3 at 6:00 PM in the State Tournament at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.

3rd Region Championship

Apollo 1  Meade County 0
Tanner Edge threw a complete game shutout, and Apollo scored the lone run of the game on an infield throwing error.

Apollo advances to face Mercer County June 3 at 11:00 AM in the State Tournament at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.

4th Region Championship

Logan County 3  Russell County 2
Matt Harper went 3-3 with a double and 2 RBI, Gage Hales went 2-3 and scored twice, and Dustin Cartas added a triple to power Logan County.  Hunter Britt worked 4 2/3 innings, and Ryan Basham picked up the win tossing 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Logan County advances to face the St. Xavier/Male winner June 4 at 1:30 PM in the State Tournament at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.

5th Region Championship

Central Hardin 10  Nelson County 0 (6 innings)
Drew Harrington homered, drove in 2 runs, and fired a complete game 1-hitter with 12 K’s to lead Central Hardin to the regional title.  Alex Crowder went 2-4 with a double and 4 RBI, freshman Justin Rouse collected 2 hits, and Zach Ditto doubled home 2 runs in the win. 

Central Hardin advances to face Lone Oak June 4 at 8:30 PM in the State Tournament at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.

7th Region Semi-Finals

St. Xavier 6  Trinity 5
Trinity scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th and had the tying run on 2nd base when Connor Underwood was brought in the game in relief of starter Sam Melchior and struck out the final hitter to preserve the victory.  Sam Springer and Miles Lee doubled, and Nate Stemle tripled to lead the Tigers offense.  Melchior allowed 4 ER in 6 2/3 innings to record the win.

St. Xavier advances to face Male tonight at 7:30 PM at the University of Louisville in the 7th Region Championship.

Male 4  DuPont Manual 3
Daniel McFarland went 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI, Kainin Lewis went 2-3 with a double and triple, and Heath Brownley added 2 hits and a RBI as Male jumped out to a 4-0 lead and held on for the win.  Brandon Crabtree worked 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win, and Justen Linares pitched the 7th to earn the save.

9th Region Semi-Finals

Dixie Heights 6  Beechwood 2
Dixie Heights rallied for 5 runs with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th to pull off the win in stunning fashion.  With the game tied 2-2 and the bases loaded, Garrett Combs ended the game with a walk-off grand slam to propel Dixie to the 9th Region title game. 

Dixie advances to face Ryle tonight at 7:00 at Florence Freedom Stadium in the 9th Region Championship

Ryle 8  St. Henry 0
Tyler Lonnemann went 2-4 with a triple and scored 2 runs, Mason Forbes went 2-3 with a double, Jackson Brennan went 2-3 with a RBI, and Thomas Baumann went 2-4 with 2 doubles and drove in a run as Ryle cruised to the win.  Josh Bellew struck out 8 and allowed 3 hits in 5 innings of work to pick up the win. 

Ryle advances to face Dixie Heights tonight at 7:00 at Florence Freedom Stadium in the 9th Region Championship.

10th Region Championship

Harrison County 1  Campbell County 0
Harrison County’s Jordan Martin and Campbell County’s Tyler Walsh hooked up in a good old-fashioned pitcher’s duel.  Martin allowed 5 hits and struck out 5 in throwing the complete game shutout.  Walsh allowed 3 hits and struck out 9 as the hard-luck losing pitcher.  Martin drove in the game’s lone run with a base hit to win it for Harrison County. 

Harrison County advances to face the Ryle/Dixie Heights winner June 4 at 6:00 PM in the State Tournament at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.

11th Region Championship

Tates Creek 9  Scott County 2
Blake Rose went 2-3 with 2 RBI, Jeff Chapuran rove in 3 runs, and Javon Shelby scored 4 times to lead the Tates Creek attack.  Caleb Johnson allowed 1 ER over 6 innings of work and recorded 10 strikeouts to pick up the win.

Tates Creek advances to face the Collins/Spencer Co winner on June 3 at 8:30 PM in the State Tournament at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.

12th Region Championship

Mercer County 13  Southwestern 3 (5 innings)
The middle of the Mercer Co lineup provided plenty of offense as Russell Sims went 3-4 with a double, 2 RBI, and 3 runs scored, Jon Banks went 3-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs, and Curry Brown went 2-4 with a home run and 4 RBI.  JT Long went the distance in the 5-inning contest to pick up the win. 

Mercer Co advances to face Apollo June 3 at 11:00 AM in the State Tournament at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.

14th Region Championship

Letcher County Central 7  Powell County 0

Letcher County Central advances to face Henderson County June 3 at 6:00 PM in the State Tournament at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.

16th Region Championship

Ashland Blazer 9  Greenup County 4
Ashland scored 5 runs in the 5th to blow the game open.  Logan Salow went 3-4 with a double and RBI, Cody Conley went 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI, and Cade O’Bryan had 2 hits to lead Ashland Blazer.  Evan Cox allowed 3 ER in 6 2/3 innings to pick up the win.

Ashland Blazer advances to face the PRP/Butler winner June 4 at 11:00 AM in the State Tournament at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.
