The McHenry Future Prospects Showcase & Educational Camp for the 2024 and 2025 graduating classes took place on Sunday, January 26th at Pro Player Academy in McHenry, IL. Over 50 prospects participated in an educational portion as well as a pro-style workout in front of the PBR Illinois Scouting Staff. Today, we start the event analysis with a breakdown of the statistical leaders.

The future is bright in Northern Illinois as a number of 2024 and 2025 prospects will be ones to watch as they enter high school. A couple of 2024s who found their names towards the top of multiple categories were RHP/INF Luke Oblen (DePaul College Prep), OF/RHP Samuel Chapman (Woodstock), C Tommy Korn (Crystal Lake Central), C Kyle Hartmann (Sycamore), Logan Voelz (Antioch), RHP/OF Liam Arnold (Palatine), 1B/LHP Landen Patton (N/A) among a number of others.

Oblen has a physical 5-foot-11, 165-pound frame and was one of the more impressive right-handed hitters on the day. Oblen has a presence in the box, advanced bat speed, level path that stays through the zone and made a lot of loud contact. Oblen then got on the mound and showed a loose, athletic arm, ran his fastball up to 78 mph with a three-pitch mix.

Chapman is a lean, projectable left-handed hitting outfielder with a loose athletic swing and fluid outfield actions. He also has an upside arm that worked in the low-70’s on the mound.

Korn is a 5-foot-9, 170-pound, polished defender behind the plate with upside on the mound as well. Behind the plate, Korn has sure hands, is quick and clean out of the crouch and has a strong, accurate arm that produced a low pop time of 2.19.

Two other impressive 2024 catchers were the aforementioned Hartmann and Sir Jamison Jones (St. Rita). Hartmann takes an aggressive, intentful swing from the right-side of the plate and drove balls right back up the middle in BP. Hartmann is also more than capable to stick behind the plate with quick, athletic feet, soft hands and an arm that plays accurately and carries. Jones has a chance to be a high-level offensive prospect. Jones has a strong 5-foot-6, 165-pound frame, compact quiet swing, present bat speed and repeated hard gap-to-gap contact with fluid rhythm.

Voelz, Arnold and Patton had some of the livelier arms in attendance and all have bright futures on the mound.

When looking at the group of 2025’s in attendance INF/RHP AJ Putty (McHenry) and INF/RHP Lance Moon (N/A) were two of the clear standouts from the day. Putty took a polished round of BP showing an easy, simple swing with bat speed, confidence in the box and worked gap-to-gap. Putty also showed advanced defensive actions on the infield with sure hands, fluid footwork and a loose arm that plays across the diamond. Moon showed much of the same, especially defensively. Moon is highly-athletic on the infield with quick feet, release and plays with body control on the move. Moon also has a direct, efficient swing with present twitch from the right side of the plate. Moon also showed upside on the mound thanks to his quick, lively arm and feel for the strike zone.

There were a number of others who showed well and will be mentioned in a few weeks when we release the scouting reports from the event in a few weeks.
