Mississippi Fall ID: Quick Hits

Matt Miller
State Director

Pearl, MS - The Mississippi Fall ID was held on Saturday, October 15th at Trustmark Park, home of the Mississippi Braves. This event consisted of prospects in the 2023-2026 classes. These players went through a pro-style workout and took batting practice using Trackman to record hitting metrics. Pitchers were able to throw in a bullpen setting and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing this weekend.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for these events, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from the weekend. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release Statistical Leaderboards for the event.

QUICK HITS

Harlin Hovater, Magnolia Heights (MS), 2024
Hovater is causing a stir lately with recruiters. The 2024 from Magnolia Heights is just another Chief making himself known. Hovater had a day's best 1.92 pop time using a very strong and accurate arm up to 79 mph. At the plate, he showed some ability to go the other way, though was consistent with several hard line drives into the right centerfield gap.

Tristan Hendrix, Hatley (MS), 2025
Hendrix used a very quick and loose arm while working between 82-84 mph (T85) with his fastball on Saturday. The Hatley sophomore also showed lots of quick, biting action and depth to his breaking ball with 2300 spin. Hendrix worked 3 pitches in the strike zone and should begin to garner lots of attention from recruiters.

Jackson Howard, Columbus Christian (MS), 2023
We were able to get our first look at Howard and the uncommitted 2023 has some upside with a fastball into the low 80’s with loose, lengthy arm action. Howard also showed solid feel and action to his secondary stuff including a breaking ball with good depth and shape.

Adyn Westmoreland, Heritage Academy (MS), 2025
We first saw Westmoreland at the Golden Spikes Scout Day and he has already improved on his skill set since then. The outfielder from Heritage Academy was solid on defense during his evaluation though at the plate is where he really turned heads. Westmoreland gets into his legs well during his swing with a slightly upward bat path and tons of aggression and exit velocities into the upper 90's.

Chap Cook, Canton Academy (MS), 2024
Cook carries a big, strong frame with him. The first baseman from Canton Academy used a line drive approach with slight loft to send several line drives into the right center field gap with authority. Cook was consistently in the mid 90’s with his exit velocities with an event high 97 mph.
