Scouting Report
'23 C/OF Colton Wombles (No. 3, Auburn recruit) is know for his ability to hit in-game, and the bat continues to show up time after time. He was held at bay in Game 1, but recored two extra base hits during Game 2 against some relievers. In the second at-bat, Wombles did a good job of sitting back on a breaking ball and driving it deep into the pull side gap for a RBI triple that scored Milam. Moved well around the bases. Came back up in the 3rd inning, and drove a ball to right field for a RBI double. Some compact strength packed into that 5-foot-8, 180 pound frame. Above average receiver behind the plate w/ a strong arm, quick transfer & decent accuracy on throws to 2nd base.
5-foot-8, 175 pound frame with definite compact strength present. Wombles was his usual self offensively in a look at a HS scrimmage prior to the 2021 season. Recorded a hard hit single back up the middle in his 1st at bat of the scrimmage. Well-known for being able to produce at a high-level during gameplay. Uses a short leg kick with no wasted movement before the pitch. Short, compact stroke and uses strength to hit to the gaps. Started in CF defensively, but moved to C shortly after. Above average receiver with a quick transfer and a strong arm on throws to second base. Blocks well, lots of flexibility in the hips. Auburn recruit.
06/05/19- 5-foot-6, 150-pounds with some compact strength present. Brought a significant amount of energy to the game, and set the tone from the leadoff spot. Right-handed hitter who does not get cheated, and exhibits stronger feel for the strike zone. Stood out in right field where he aggressively hunted all balls, and looked to show off his plus-arm for his age.
