NYS Games: Team Three Player Analysis

The dust has finally settled on the 2017 NYS Games. Over 230 players traveled and competed in Binghamton, NY in front of over 80 college coaches, eight professional scouts, and our entire PBR scouting staff - including the President of the National PBR brand, Sean Duncan. Team Three reports are in the books, let's take a look the player analysis reports.

Team Three Reports

Jordan Peltier, OF (2018/Shaker) Lanky 5-foot-10 outfielder with a 6.91/60 up slightly from 6.95 he ran in November. Offensively - balanced swing, keeps bat on a level plane with slight upper cut during follow through, effective load, appropriate pre-pitch movement with an exit velocity of 80 MPH, evidence of lower body engagement, further efforts to gain counter-rotation between upper and lower torso will produce more power, stays middle third of the field. Defensively - quiet, agile movements takes direct line to the ball, sets up well to generate momentum, effective use of crow hop, accurate arm with an outfield velocity of 83 MPH.


Joseph Novenche, C (2018/Shenendehowa) Sturdy 5-foot-10, 175-pound catcher, ran a 7.06/60. Offensively - effective load with appropriate pre-pitch movement, compact swing with an exit velocity of 86 MPH, keeps bats on level plane through the zone, comfortable driving ball to middle third, uses quick hands to turn on inside pitch; lower body engagement will produce more power. Defensively - stays low through the receiving process with smooth, comfortable transfer, accurate arm with a POP time of 1.93-2.06.  


Jordan Rios, MIF (2019/Deer Park) Athletic 6-foot, 175-pound shortstop with a 7.32/60. Offensively - keeps bat on a level plane through the zone with a compact swing and repeatable motion with an exit velocity of 83 MPH; stays middle third of the field with a slight upper cut; further lower body engagement will produce more power. Defensively - fluid and agile footwork, makes smooth transfer from glove to throwing hand with accurate arm at 81 MPH.


Maxwell Yale, OF (2018/Honeoye) Slender 5-foot-10, 155 pounds, ran a 7.38/60. Offensively - short to the ball, keeps bat on level plane with a repeatable motion and exit velocity of 79 MPH, stays middle third of the field, evidence of lower body engagement, counter rotation between upper and lower torso will increase power. Defensively - agile footwork, smooth transfer to throwing hand, gathers self to create momentum accurate arm with an outfield velocity of 74 MPH. Pitching - economy of motion, hides ball well, batters struggle with late action on fastball at 74-76 MPH, freezes hitters with 12-to-6 curveball at 58-61 MPH, spots change-up at 61-62 MPH, induces weak contact.


Seth Logan, OF/RHP (2020/Valley Central) Athletic 5-foot-10, 180-pound right-hander, ran a 7.39/60. Offensively - keeps bat on a level plane through the strike zone out of an upright stance, repeatable motion, comfortable driving to middle third of the field with an exit velocity of 87 MPH; evidence of counter rotation between upper and lower torso but further lower body engagement will produce more power. Defensively - agile footwork, takes direct line to the ball, sets up well behind ball to generate momentum for an accurate throw at 81 MPH. Pitching - uses height to create a downward plane on fastball at 82-85 MPH, effectively changes eye level and works both sides of the plate for strikes; development of secondary will necessary to balance attack.


Dylan Judd, C (2018/Oceanside) Athletic 6-foot, 190-pound catcher, ran a 7.47/60. Offensively - smooth, fluid swing, strong hands guide bat on level plane through the strike zone with an exit velocity of 86 MPH - down slightly from 87 MPH at Academic Games, but still impressive, evidence of lower body engagement, next-level talent, more in the tank. Defensively - skilled backstop with clean, efficient footwork, stays down through receiving process, accurate arm delivers with a position velocity of 76 MPH and a POP time between 1.98-2.03.


John Rogowski, OF (2018/Lancaster) Athletic 6-foot-1, 175-pound projectable frame, ran a 7.59/60. Offensively - clean, effortless swing out of an upright stance, keeps bat on a level plane through the strike zone, repeatable motion with full extension after contact, consistent barrel contact, drives ball to middle third with an exit velocity of 86 MPH, evidence of counter rotation between upper and lower torso. Defensively - agile footwork, smooth transfer with an accurate arm and a position velocity of 79 MPH.


Gabriel Thomas, OF (2019/Burke Catholic) Sturdy build at 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds with a 7.60/60. Offensively - uses inner knee rotation out of an upright stance for an exit velocity of 85 MPH, full extension after contact with slight upper cut, repeatable motion, comfortable driving ball to middle third, counter rotation between upper and lower torso will produce more power. Defensively - gaining confidence with with ability to gather self behind ball, some accuracy with arm strength at 79 MPH.


Tyler Smith, MIF (2018/Fairport) Slight 5-foot-9, 150-pound frame, ran a 7.6/60 - was previously timed at 7.4. Offensively - uses inner knee rotation to drive ball to middle third of third of the field with an exit velocity of 84 MPH - down slightly from 89 MPH, repeatable motion, keeps bat on level plane with full extension after contact, lower body engagement will generate more consistent power. Defensively - agile, clean footwork with balanced approach to ball, smooth transfer with accurate arm at 79 MPH.


Nikko Citriniti, OF/LHP (2020/Pine Bush) Sturdy 5-foot-9, 185-pound left-hander, ran a 7.81/60. Offensively - short, compact swing, makes consistent barrel contact with an exit velocity of 82 MPH, drives the ball to middle third, keeps bat on level plane with hands elevated, lower body engagement could unleash untapped power. Defensively - fundamentally sound, takes straight line to ball with agile feet, smooth transfer, accurate arm at 80 MPH. Pitching - emerging use of hip tip at balance point to create power, late movement on fastball at 70-72 MPH, tight 10-to-4 curveball at 56-57 MPH keeps batters off-balance, consistently induces weak contact.


Trey Princiotto, MIF/RHP (2019/Horseheads) 5-foot-11, 142-pound frame with room to grow, ran a 7.84/60. Offensively - uses inner-knee rotation with a loose, fluid swing, keeps bat plane on level path through the strike, makes consistent barrel contact, repeatable motion, appropriate pre-pitch movement with an exit velocity of 81 MPH. Defensively - fundamentally sound, soft hands, smooth transfer, quiet feet, accurate arm at 76 MPH. Pitching - short arm action with late run on fastball at 76-77 MPH touched 78 MPH, gets downward plane, sharp bite on slider at 63-64 MPH keeps batters off-balance, throws a change-up at 68-68 MPH for strikes, scratching the surface of his talent.


Robert Milopsky, 3B/RHP (2019/Rocky Point) Sturdy 5-foot-11, 185 pound frame, ran a 7.93/60. Pitching - clean arm action, effortless, gets downward plane on fastball at 85-86 MPH that touches 87 MPH, looks like he can throw for days, fastball shows late run, gets good bite on slider at 72-74 MPH. Offensively - effective load, appropriate pre-pitch movement, quick to the ball, brings bat through the zone on a level path, repeatable motion with an exit velocity of 83 MPH. Defensively - fundamentally sound, economic use of footwork, smooth transfer with arm across infield at 76 MPH.


Connor Fitzsimmons, C (2019/Pittsford Sutherland) Athletic 6-foot-5, 215-pound catcher who is just learning the potential of his body, ran a 7.93/60. Defensively - stays low through the receiving process, above average glove, smooth, quick transfer with an arm velocity of 75 MPH and a POP time of 2.03-2.07, has plenty more in the tank, exciting prospect to watch in the coming years.


Patrick Hoffman, 1B/LHP (2018/East Meadow) Athletic 6-foot-3, 177-pound LHP. Pitching - clean arm action out of ¾ slot, effortless fastball at 76-77 MPH with arm-side run, positive hip tilt at the balance point, uses height to get downward plane, emerging curveball at 63-64 MPH, will need to develop secondary pitch for well-rounded attack, intriguing potential as he grows into his frame. Offensively - fluid swing, level bat path through the zone, effective load and pre-pitch movement, uses inner knee rotation to drive ball to middle third with an exit velocity of 83 MPH. Defensively - fundamentally sound, agile footwork, smooth transfer to throwing hand with a velocity of 74 MPH.


James Roeschlaub, 1B/LHP (2018/Auburn) Sturdy 5-foot-11, 180-pound build, ran a 7.98/60. Offensively - upright stance, uses inner knee rotation with some evidence of counter rotation between upper and lower torso for an exit velocity of 86 MPH - an increase of 4 MPH from February, keeps level bat path and gets full extension after contact, further engagement of lower body will maximize strength. Defensively - agile footwork, sure glove, smooth transfer transfer with an accurate, confident arm at 74 MPH. Pitching - uses height to get downward plane on fastball with arm-side run at 75-76 MPH, developing a 12-to-6 curveball at 59-60 MPH, good bite on slider at 65-66 MPH, full actualization of hip tilt will add velocity.


Gabriel Lopez, MIF (2018/Monroe Woodbury) Intriguing 6-foot, 160-pound athlete with an 8.03/60. Defensively - fundamentally sound, with agile footwork, soft hands, smooth transfer with pinpoint accuracy at 76 MPH, poised and confident, effortless. Offensively - upright stance, keeps hands back, inner knee rotation, keeps bat pn level path through the zone with full extension and slight upper cut after contact, consistent barrel contact at 71 MPH. Pitching - loose and clean arm action, uses height to get downward plane on fastball with movement at 71-72 MPH, curveball at 60-61 MPH is deceptive, induces weak contact, confident with change-up at 66-67 MPH, untapped potential.


Logan DeVries, 3B (2019/Pine Bush) Solid 5-foot-11, 180-pound frame, ran an 8.17/60. Offensively - uses inner knee rotation, keeps bat on level path through zone with full extension after contact for an exit velocity of 72 MPH, shows inner rotation, will benefit from counter rotation of upper and lower torso. Defensively - sound footwork, economic motions, sure hands and glove, smooth transfer, accurate arm at 75 MPH. Pitching - uses to get downward plane on fastball at 73-74 MPH, effectively changes eye level, spots both sides of plate, 2-to-7 curveball at 62-64 MPH keeps hitters off balance, consistently induces weak contact.


Nolan Dils, C (2019/Shaker) 5-foot-8, 165-pound catcher, ran an 8.38/60. Offensively - uses inner knee rotation and brings bat through the zone on level path at an exit velocity of 78 MPH, comfortable driving to middle third of the field, gets full extension after contact, will benefit from lower body engagement. Defensively - sure glove, with quick transfer to throwing hand, position velocity of 69 MPH and POP time of 2.10-2.22, consistent release point will improve accuracy.  


Brendan McFall, RHP (2018/Oceanside) 6-foot, 180-pound RHP with projectable pitcher’s frame.  Pitching- hides ball well with whip-like action that makes it difficult for batter to track pitch, attacks strike zone with fastball having late movement at 82-83 MPH, creates weak contact, maintains release point with curveball at 62-64 MPH and changeup at 66-67 MPH,  shows confidence with secondary pitches, change-up at 69-71 MPH.


David Gross, RHP (2018/CBA-Syracuse) Athletic 6-foot-1, 185-pound RHP with a pitcher’s build. Pitching - uses height out ¾ slot to get downward plane on fastball with arm-side run at 76-78 MPH, effectively changes eye level, spots pitches on both sides of the plate, confidently throws 12-to-6 curveball at 64-65 MPH for strikes, consistently induces weak contact, throws change-up at 69-70 MPH for strikes.


Tyrell Irvis, RHP (2019/Ravena-Coeymans) Athletic 6-foot-3, 215-pound RHP who is just scratching the surface, focused exclusively on the mound after registering an exit velocity of 93 MPH in previous PBR events. Pitching - positive hip tilt at the balance point with full extension for a fastball at 78-79 MPH that touches 80 MPH, learning how to consistently create downward plane, getting comfortable with landing will help effectiveness,  throws 1-to-7  curveball for strikes at 59-62 MPH, has more in the tank.


Zach Snyder, RHP (2018/Shaker) 6-foot-2, 210-pound RHP with upside. Pitching - uses low ¾ slot and occasionally throws sidearm, creates late movement at 77-78 MPH - touches 79 MPH, has learned how to use side-arm run to his advantage and consistently induces weak contact, changes eye level, throws 2-to-7 curveball to both sides of the plate at 62-63 MPH, batters struggle to find rhythm against Snyder.
