OK Fall Top Prospect Games: LHP Analysis

PBR OK hosted the fourth annual OK Fall Top Prospect Games at beautiful Central Oklahoma. Over 65 invite-only players showcased their skill in front of the PBR OK staff, 6 colleges and two pro scouts. The talented event saw five sub 7.00 60s, 6 90+ exit velos, 14 infield velos of 80+, four outfield velos of 85+, six sub 2.00 second pop times, and five max fastballs at 85 mph. Players profiles have already been updated with stats and pictures with reports and video to be updated in the weeks to come. The number below do not represent a players all-time best, only what they achieved at this event. Today, we check out the 5 left-handed pitchers from the event.

Ty Chaddrick OF / LHP / Tuttle, OK / 2022

A developing 5-foot-8, 130-pound frame . On the mound, the left-hander works from an average tempo delivery with a high leg kick before taking a long stride for his height down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action is long in the back making a moderate circle before coming through  a near over the top slot. Fastball sits 67-69 mph, flashing some arm side run, some strikes. Slider shows 1/7 shape with some depth at 60-61 mph. Curveball is still developing at 53-55. In the game, Chadwick has some trouble finding the zone, but settled in, striking out 2 of the last three batters he faced. 

Caleb Crabtree LHP / 1B / Howe, OK / 2021

A 6-foot, 178-pound frame with long levers and room to add size and strength. On the mound, the left-hander works from an average tempo delivery with some rhythm and an up, down, and out leg kick before striding down the mound, finishing slightly to the first base side with some recoil in his finish. Arm action is long and controlled in the back before coming through a high-3/4 slot with some quickness. Fastball sits 77-78 with consistent and heavy sink, mostly strikes. Slider shows slurvy action with 1/7 shape with mostly strikes at 68-69 mph. 

Emanuel Jeter OF / LHP / Tuttle, OK / 2021

A 5-foot-10, 170-pound frame with strength throughout. On the mound, the left-hander works from a controlled delivery with a short leg kick an abbreviated stride down the mound finishing slightly to the third base side. Arm action is clean, quick, and fluid in the back with moderate length before coming through a high-3/4 slot. Fastball sits 80-82 mph touching 83 mph with arm-side run, mostly strikes. Curveball shows late depth with tight spin, thrown with full arm speed. In the game, Jeter punched out four of the five batters he faced, filling up the strike zone. 

Jaxon Smith LHP / Seminole, OK / 2022

A 5-foot-10, 160-pound proportional frame. On the mound, the left-hander works from an average tempo delivery with a high leg kick before sinking into his back side and driving down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action has a short circle in the back before coming through a catcher’s slot with some arm speed. Fastball sits 78-80 mph, mostly 80, with consistent and heavy arm-side run, some strikes. Curveball ranges 65-68 mph with 1/7 shape and some late depth, some strikes. In the game, Smith walked 4 and punched out 4 in his two innings of work, allowing only one hit. 

Will Taylor LHP / 1B / Kingfisher, OK / 2021

A 6-foot-2, 175-pound lean and projectable frame with present wiry strength. On the mound, the left-hander works from an average tempo delivery that he repeats well with a moderate leg kick before finishing balanced.  Arm action is short in the back, dropping straight down out of the break before coming through an over the stop slot with some arm speed. Fastball ranges 76-79 with consistent arm-side run and strikes. More velo to come on the mound based on his outfield velo. Curveball shows above average spin with consistent depth for strikes at 63-64 mph. Splitter is still developing at 64-65 mph. In the game, Taylor punched out two of the four batters he faced and did not allow a hit.
