SEASON OUTLOOK

The 2018 Deer Creek Antlers have reloaded after a successful season a year ago. The Antlers finished last season with a loss in the state quarter-finals giving them an overall record of 29-6. This spring they look to reload, returning only four starters and one arm with more than 15 innings from a year ago. Though many of the players will be new to the varsity squad, there will still be strong senior leadership from Hunter Feese, Colton Bertus, and Garrett Wilkens. There is no lack of talent with this group, going much deeper than some of the names mentioned here, and they could make another deep run.

Offensively, the middle of the order for Deer Creek will pack some punch. Juniors Kaden Marshall and Wade Elliott will look to build on the impressive numbers they put up last year along with newcomer junior Jordan Coffey who is yet another threat to leave the yard every time he steps to the plate.

On the mound, the Antlers will lean on the left-handed trio of Freese, Jackie Robinson, and Max Huffling. Freese was dominant in many of his outings last year, and Robinson and Huffling have the stuff to give any lineup trouble.

Defensively, Wade Elliott will captain the infield as an elite defender with experience. Kaden Marshall will patrol the outfield grass, likely in center field with his raw speed and accurate arm. Bryce Logan could make a huge impact for the antlers on the defensive side of the ball. The freshman shows a high proficiency in the infield and outfield, and could allow coach Holman lots of flexibility with the lineup.
