OK Top Senior Games: Statistical Analysis
June 9, 2020
On Tuesday, June 22, the PBR Oklahoma staff held its OK Top Senior Games showcase at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City where the state’s best Class of 2021 prospects met to perform against one another while marking the start of the summer showcase circuit. Many of the state’s best uncommitted talent participated in this event, too, making it a high-profile showcase to follow along this critical season for Oklahoma’s incoming senior class.
Today, we’re going to begin breaking down last week’s event from a statistical perspective. We’ll share the leaderboards in each of the measured data categories, highlighting the top performers at the Top Senior Games.

As a top-100-ranked prospect nationally, No. 2 in the state, RHP Jackson Jobe (Heritage Hall; Ole Miss commit) had already made his presence felt among the pro scouting community, but his performance at this event will help him stay busy throughout this summer and maybe even this time next year. Last Tuesday, Jobe sat 90-93 mph while recording a biting slider that breached the 3000 RPM threshold on our TrackMan device, at 80 mph.
He paced the max velo leaderboard by five ticks, but there’s even more significant talent near the top of this leaderboard. Currently the No. 26-ranked prospect in the state’s 2021 class, RHP John Ruthardt (Deer Creek) is among the most interesting uncommitted righties in Oklahoma. We saw him in February where he sat 84-86 mph and he gained a couple ticks since, sitting 85-88 mph in OKC. It had been awhile since we last saw Ryan Smith (Mustang), who we were more familiar with as a backstop, but he made a leap on the mound worth highlighting, sitting 85-88 mph. Unranked and uncommitted RHP Naton Herchock (Marlow) broke out at this event, sitting 85-87 mph; he’s a lanky 6-foot-2 arm who made a huge splash at this showcase. Southmore’s Kaden Wickersham is built similarly and is also uncommitted; he, too, sat 85-87 mph last Tuesday.

The switch-hitting, uncommitted outfielder from Metro Christian Academy, Larry Edwards, led the group in this category, clocking in at a 6.73. He’s a premium athlete, obviously, built at a strong 6-foot stature. Not far behind was OF Ty Hammack (Deer Creek), one of the top uncommitted prospects in the region. The No. 11 overall prospect in the state had a big day, further establishing himself as a high-follow recruit to be had in Oklahoma’s 2021 class. Jobe showcased his overall athleticism, as well, by running a 6.85.

The cream rose to the top again in this category, as Jobe and Hammack tied each other at the 97 mph mark, as did Wichita State commit Payton Tolle (Bethany), a left/left two-way athlete listed at a hulking 6-foot-6, 230 pounds. Another huge prospect finished right under the day’s leaders: 1B A.J. Redman (Durant). He’s an imposing right-handed at-bat, listed at 6-foot-7, 260 pounds, and remains uncommitted. Oklahoma State recruit and the No. 5-ranked prospect in the state, SS Cayden Brumbaugh (Edmond Santa Fe) tied two more at the 95 mph mark: 3B Carson Benge (Yukon) and 1B Garret Baker (Mustang). Benge is the top uncommitted prospect in the state’s 2021 class, as a lean/athletic 6-foot-2, left-handed-hitting third baseman, equipped with explosive bat speed and natural actions at the hot corner.

Jobe wields some electricity on the mound, which might prevent him from continuing at shortstop in the long-term, but for now, he naturally topped this chart at 96 mph across the diamond. Benge has long, lean levers paired with an athleticism that will help him patrol third capably, and he’s got plenty of arm strength to make the plays to his backhand, topping 89 mph last week to first base. SS/RHP Cal Birchfield (Rattan) is a high-level uncommitted prospect to know inside this group, ranked inside the state’s overall top-20 in the class. He has two-way potential, evidenced by an 86 mph high off the mound and an 88 best in the infield.

Lanky 6-foot-3 athlete Zade Cisneros (Clinton) has some premium arm strength, recording the high to home last week at 90 mph. He can also chase it down, clocking in at a 7.00 flat in the 60-yard dash. He’s yet another uncommitted prospect that should be on everyone’s radar as the summer rolls on – and he also carries some two-way upside. OF Drake Kerr (Vici) made a loud PBR event debut, running a 6.85 while also topping 88 mph to home; he’s uncommitted and was unranked headed into the event, though it might not be for long. William Edmundson (Homeschool) is a physical right/right outfielder with strength that shows itself in multiple areas, including on his throws home, as he matched Kerr at an 88 mph best.

Smith’s arm strength is a real asset, and it showed itself out of the crouch as he and Owasso’s Braden Blundell led this group with 79 mph highs. Jackson Hill (Deer Creek) is one of the top-ranked backstops in the state, currently ranked inside the top-60 overall, and he just barely trailed the two at 78 mph.
