The Four Top Prospects

Climbing into the top slot is LHP Dax Fulton (Mustang HS, OK). The Vanderbilt recruit has a 6-foot-6, 205-pound frame that continues to get stronger and more athletic. Fulton shows off an impressive four-pitch mix, all thrown for strikes. His fastball sits 90-92 mph touching 93 with downhill tilt and occasional cut. Fulton also mixes in a two-seam fastball with late life. The curveball is, at times, one of the better breaking balls in the 2020 class at 75-78 mph with 1/7 shape and late depth to go along with tight spin. The changeup has late fade and sink at 75-80 mph. Fulton’s athleticism also shines through in the left-handed batters box where he shows pop and barrel control.

Rising into the No. 2 slot is two-way baseball player and two-sport star SS/RHP Cade Horton (Norman HS, OK). Horton has committed as a dual sport athlete to Oklahoma, signing up to throw the football for the Sooners as well as play baseball. On the mound, Horton’s athleticism allows him to be a consistent strike thrower. The right-hander features an advanced slider which he throws in any count to both sides of the plate in the upper 70s with full arm speed and very late depth. His fastball shows consistent arm side run at 90-93 and touches 95. Horton is also a high end defender with advanced hands and the elite arm strength to make plays anywhere on the left-side of the infield. His greatest asset is his baseball IQ and aptitude to be in the right place at the right time. At the plate, the right-handed hitter has an all fields and flat approach with a knack for finding barrels.

In the No. 3 spot in the Oklahoma rankings is Arkansas commit RHP/OF Nate Wholgemuth(Owasso HS, OK). Wohlgemuth is barrel chested and thick legged with impressive strength throughout his 5-foot-10, 200-pound frame. He has a controlled delivery that he is repeating more consistently with a fast arm and strong leg drive. His fastball currently sits 90-93 mph with consistent arm side run, touching 94. He possesses a plus changeup with fade and sink at 80-84 that he throws with confidence in any count. His curveball shows 11/5 shape flashing late depth and tight spin. Wohlgemuth has shown much more pitchability at the end of the spring and into the summer, thus far. Offensively, his athleticism shows through with a 91 mph exit velo and a 6.72 laser timed 60. Defensively, he shows athletic actions in center field and excellent arm strength, throwing 95 mph from the outfield.

We only ever highlight the top 3 when updating the rankings, but an exception needed to be made in this rendition of the Oklahoma 2020 Class Rankings  for one of the top high school hitters in the country. Jace Bohrofen (Westmoore HS, OK) has easily put up the best offensive resume over the last two seasons of high school baseball in OK. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound left-handed hitter possesses a sweet swing and shows impressive power to all fields, making quick in at-bat adjustments. Bohrofen plays first base for his high school team, but has the tools to be an effective corner outfielder at the next level.

Risers

Over the last four months, a few players have shown impressive growth and have shot up the list. Below are a few of them.

Carson Thomas, LHP, Carl Albert HS
A 6-foot, 160-pound lean and athletic frame. The recent Oklahoma commit jumps 15 spots due to his projection starting to become a reality. Always possessing a quick arm and lean frame, Thomas made his jump this spring being reported as high a 90 mph with consistent run on his fastball.

Blake Scott, C, Tonkawa HS
The 5-foot-11, 200-pound frame with strength throughout continues to climb the rankings, this time up six spots, as he continues to get strong and refine his swing and approach. The left-handed hitting catcher is a threat to hit a double each and every time he steps to the dish showing some barrel strength and control.

Peyton Messenger, C, Broken Arrow HS
A 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame. Messenger climbs nine spots as he continues to solidify himself as an elite defender behind the plate with well advanced hands, arm strength, accuracy, and agility. Offensively, the right-handed hitter makes consistent hard and flat contact in BP.

Newcomers

The PBR Oklahoma staff is always on the lookout for talented players across the state, and we pride ourselves on constantly evaluating and discovering new players. Below are three new players that made impacts during the spring and summer.

JBriell Easley, RHP, Shawnee HS
An elite athlete, the Easleys tools translate best to the mound. The right-hander works from a controlled delivery with a high leg kick before gliding down the mound. Arm action is moderate and clean before coming through a high-¾ slot with arm strength and arm speed. Fastball keeps its plane at 88-90 mph with some late life, some strikes. Slider shows 11/5 shape with tight spin flashing late depth at 73-77 mph. Changeup shows some fade at  73-79 mph.

Drew Williams, OF/C, Miami HS
A physically impressive 6-foot-2, 200-pound lean frame with strength throughout. Offensively, the left-handed hitter shows pop to the middle and pull side with some lift. Defensively, is at home in the outfield, but is also developing quickly as a strong armed catcher.

Isaac Stebens, RHP, Stillwater HS
A 5-foot-11, 167-pound lean frame with some room to add size and strength. On the mound, the right-hander works only from the stretch with a high leg kick before driving down the dish. Arm action is long and quick in the back with a quick change of direction before coming through an high-¾ slot. Fastball ranges 83-89 mph with some arm side run. Curveball has rolling action and 11/5 shape at 68-69 mph. Changeup has some fade at 70-71 mph.

Benjamin Lawson, 2B, Bethany HS
A 5-foot-10, 170-pound broad shouldered frame with strength. The right-handed hitter posted one of the better rounds of BP on the day showing some pop with a 90 mph exit velo. Lawson also showed excellent hands and feet on the infield. His quickness shows up in his lateral movement and in his 6.93 60.
