Rock Canyon vs Chatfield
5a State Championship

Game Recap

Chatfield and Rock Canyon would meet for the 2nd time in the final four. Going into the final four Chatfield was the only team unbeaten, but unfortunately they ran into Rock Canyon on Friday losing 6-5, then waiting the winner of the Rock Canyon Mountain Vista game they would draw Rock Canyon again, only this time Rock Canyon ran away winning 9-2 to win their first 5A state baseball championship.

Senior RHP Sean O'Dell for Chatfield and and Senior RHP Josh White would take the mound. Both pitchers would give up a run in the first inning. Rock Canyon would get theirs with the help of a balk on O'Dell, however O'dell would make up for the mistake helping Chatfield generate a run with a lead off single, eventually scoring.

The game would stay close for 4 innings, but Chatfield had no answer for senior OF Quin O'Neill. O'Neill would get a two-out RBI single in the 3rd, and would then get a 2-out RBI double in the 5th that would extend Rock Canyon's lead to 4-2.

The decisive moment in the game came in the Top of the 7th inning. With the score still at 4-2, The Jaguars would eventually break the game wide open scoring 5 runs with the help from big singles from Senior Nick Lamb and Senior 1B Ben Sneider.

After a hour rain delay the game was pretty much all but over. Josh White had a heck of a tournament and git the CG win. Rock Canyon would finish the year 23-4. 2015 Cinderella story Chatfield, after starting the year 1-8 would end up 14-2, but would give all 5A teams in the future hope that they just have to get in the tournament and you never know what could happen.
