Scouting Report
6/12/19 - 5’11 155-pound slim frame. Bat continues to develop, having two doubles in game play. Using lower half more efficiently, letting it get his swing started. Stays in rear leg throughout stride, helping stay back create good bat path matching pitch plane. Exit velo was 80 MPH. Behind the plate he is as smooth as it gets. Good mobility behind the plate, allowing him to get to knees easily when blocking is needed. Quality receiver with a pop time of 1.91-2.03. Quick release and good feet help is 74 MPH rm get to the bag quickly.
1/27/19 Uncommitted 5’11 155-pound frame. Kress stood out behind the plate, controlling the game and had a calmness that came along with his pace of place. The quick transfer got him as low as a 1.97 pop time, despite not having the strongest arm. Showed good hand eye coordination at the plate, consistently squaring balls up in the air. Small leg lift, loading back into his back side. As he continues to get stronger, Kress will have the makings of a big-time recruit.
6/6/18 - Kress has finally started add some mass to his 5-foot-11, 145-pound frame. Hits from a slightly open, balanced set up. High back elbow and some bat wrap during load. Shows enough hand-eye to be a factor on offense down the line; 71 mph exit velocity. Would likely be better served by a more line drive swing plane. Kress continues to show he's one of the top defensive catchers anywhere with a best pop time of 1.91 and elite flexibility and receiving ability behind the plate; 74 catcher velocity. Also ran a 7.46 60-yard dash. Added strength and mass will continue to help his overall game.
1/28/18 - 5-foot-11, 145-pound frame. Looking to lift and pull in BP with deep hand load and slight uphill path. Stays behind the baseball. Body doesn’t yet match up with the type of swing he is trying to execute. 71 mph exit velocity. Easily the top defender at our Freshmen Free event a couple months prior, Kress again stood out at the Preseason All-State Games amongst players much older than him. He continually shows very quick transfer and elite accuracy on his throws to 2B. Kress posted a top pop time of 2.01 with 70 mph velocity and also excelled as a receiver, showing quiet hands and superior flexibility. Very young physically, Kress is a ways off from being able to drive the ball consistently but shows the hand eye coordination necessary to develop into an offensive contributor in addition to his elite defense at a premium position.
12/10/17 - Easily the top defender on the day at catcher, with a very quick transfer and elite accuracy on his throws to 2B. Kress posted a top pop time of 2.01 with 70 mph velocity and also excelled as a receiver, showing quiet hands and good flexibility.
