PBR Spotlight Game: #5 Grosse Point South vs Grosse Point North

#5 Grosse Pointe South took on their crosstown rival Grosse Pointe North in a Division 1 quarter final game played at Wayne State University. The winner would advance to the semifinal game played this Thursday at Michigan State University.

Grosse Pointe South jumped out to an early 4 run lead in the 1st inning.

Leadoff hitter 2016 William Poplawski started the game off with a single, 2015 Adrian commit Justin McMann (pictured right) reached on an outfield error followed by unsigned senior Ryan Liagre’s RBI single. 2017 Brad Thompson singled scoring McMann, unsigned senior William Norris added an RBI single and Thompson later scored on a fielder’s choice.  

In the top of the 2nd inning McMann reached first on a free pass and scored on a single by unsigned senior James Fishback.

South added 2 additional runs in the top of the 5th as Fishback and Norris both scored after hitting singles.

Grosse Pointe North answered with 3 runs of their own in the 6th inning.

Macomb CC commit Nick Mazzola and 2016 Tristian Richardson both reached base bringing the Regional hero 2015 Central Michigan commit Daniel Robinson (pictured right) to the plate. Robinson hit a 3-run home run against Sterling Heights Stevenson advancing Grosse Pointe North in the regional.

Once again Robinson did not disappoint smashing a double off the right field wall for a triple scoring both Mazzola and Richardson. Robinson scored on a double by 2016 Alex Huguenin.
