PBR Spotlight Game: Ontario Blue Jays 18u vs Toronto Mets 17u

Scarborough- On a sunny afternoon, the Ontario Blue Jays were just too much for the 17u Mets on this day as strong pitching, timely hitting, and a clean game on the defensive side of the ball proved to be a successful remedy as OBJ took both games of the double-header by scores of 10-2 and 6-1.

2015 uncommitted OBJ starter RJ Freure was in control right from the first inning as he was able to work the bottom of the zone and establish his fastball early. Freure worked both sides of the plate and complimented his fastball with his curveball that helped play with hitters timing. The line on Freure was 5.1 innings giving up three hits, 2 walks, while striking out six and walking away with the win.

The offence wasn’t led by anyone in particular as the whole team chipped in at the plate in game one’s 10-2 victory. Recently drafted Cincinnati Reds prospect JD Williams went 2-3 with two RBI’s and shortstop Royce Ando was 2-4 with a run and RBI to go along with a perfectly placed bunt between first and the pitchers mound to start another big inning.

Conner Morro, Troy Daring, and Matt Jones all chipped in with big RBI hits and A.J. Padmore and Rashan Moursalien worked the final 5 outs of the ballgame.

Game two was more of the same as OBJ jumped out to an early lead and scored in the first three innings, as that was more than enough for the 18th round pick of the Cincinnati Reds Isaac Anesty. Anesty, who was on a pitch count after having just been recently drafted by the Reds earlier in the week was able to lst 3.1 innings while surrendering one run and striking out three.

Following Anesty out of the bullpen was the Reds 22nd round draft pick Darren Shred. Shred, who has caught extensively with the Junior National Team was drafted along with Anesty and Williams on the Wednesday of MLB draft. Shred was selected as a pitcher by the Reds, and on Saturday you could see why. Shred worked 1.2 innings while striking out four hitters, dominating the Mets with his overpowering fastball.

OBJ pounded out 11 hits in the contest and was lead by the top of their order. Greg Carrington, Nick Howie, and Billy Brand were a combined 6-9 with four runs scored to establish themselves as the table setters on the afternoon.

Brad Aldred went 2-3 with the Toronto Mets while Trent Rozsa worked three clean innings, allowing no runs on no walks with three hits giving up.
