Player Spotlight: C/RHP Aaron Bechtel (Wichita Heights, 2017)

Aaron Bechtel (Wichita Heights, 2017) 5-foot-11 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher and pitcher in Kansas’ 2017 class and showed well at the Central Kansas Summer trials in July.

At the plate, his hands worked inside the ball middle of the field line drives. He has an open stance with minimal load and a short path to contact Bechtel stays on ball through contact and made solid consistent contact during batting practice.  He ran a 7.09 60 and a 4.51 home-to-first.  He has an 83 mph exit velo.

Behind the plate, he had pop times between 1.90 and 1.95-seconds with an 80 mph positional velo. He has a quick catch and throw, with his hands and feet in sync.  He come from an over the top release.  Bechtel has a durable frame and made accurate throws with carry.

On the mound he topped at 87 mph with fastball working mostly 84-86 mph.  He has an over the top release, with loose arm action.  Bechtel repeats his delivery and worked the bottom of the zone.  His breaking ball has 11-to-5 shape with late action at 73-77 mph.  His change up flashed arm side sink at 75-76 mph. 

Bechtel was named Wichita All-City in 2015 and he led Wichita Heights to a third place finish in the state playoffs last spring.  Here is a look inside the recruitment of Aaron Bechtel.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Bechtel: Would be great if the school is local but not a have to.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Bechtel: Team- went to state, won third place

Personally-   Batting avg .368, RBI 24, Hits 28 /  Pitching-  Era 2.08, Walks 6, K's 39, Innings pitched 57.3, Wins 6 losses 2, Saves 1

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Bechtel: My goals for my senior season are, 1) Be a leader on the team. 2) Come together as a team and have good chemistry. 3) win city league, and win 5A State

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Bechtel: I play for the Wichita Arsenal Stars

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Bechtel: I also play Football

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Bechtel: I have an ACT score of 18 and my GPA is 3.65
