Power 25 Ranking Update

Ronald Sims
Mississippi Scouting Director

The 2018 Mississippi high school baseball season is in full swing, as teams around the state transition out of their tournament schedules and start with district play. Entering into the Number 1 spot in this week's update is Gulfport High School.

On the Rise

+ Gulfport - Started the season 10-0 after playing a tough non-conference schedule and are the biggest risers in this weeks update. Although the Admirals recently lost a one run game to Power 25 opponent Warren Central, they have displayed the ability to get through the challenges of a long season and is why they have found there place in the No. 1 slot.

+ Pearl River Central – The Blue Devils would also get off to a hot start, posting 10 wins in a row, including game one of the series versus Hattiesburg High School. Division foe Hattiesburg would also give them their first loss of the season in game two, but Pearl River should get back to its winning ways and will be looking forward to seeing Hattiesburg down the road.

New to Rankings

+ Northwest Rankin – The Cougars were listed as a bubble team last week and are now 9-2 overall. After splitting with Madison Central and beating a solid West Harrison club, the Northwest Rankin Cougars have entered this week’s update into the Power 25.

+ Sumrall – The Bobcat were also listed as a bubble team in the last update and have not recorded a loss this season from a Mississippi team. Posting victories over several quality teams already this season, Sumrall has won seven of their last nine games.

+ Houston – After winning eight of their last nine games and starting the season 9-2, the Hilltoppers enter this weeks update into the Power 25.

Below is a look at the top ten of the Power 25.
