Coming in at the #2 spot in the PBR Arizona Preseason High School Rankings is the Basha Bears. The Bears are coming off a loss in the second round of the 2022 playoffs to the Tucson Badgers by a score of 8-7. On the mound for the Bears they are lead by Washington State commit Justin Chambers, Chambers is the #3 ranked prospect in the state of Arizona and the #1 LHP. Chambers is a 6-3 210 pound starter with premium feel for three pitches. Chambers fastball works anywhere from 90-92 mph with a 78-80 mph slurve. The other two starters are likely to include San Diego Commit RHP Dallin Harrison and Arizona State Commit LHP Bradyn Barnes. Harrison went 3-0 in the 11 appearances with a 2.84 ERA in his 2022 campaign showcasing a fastball that gets up to 92 mph. While Barnes went 0-2 with a 5.07 ERA in 2022 he will play a vital role for the Bears this season. Barnes was a standout this past fall where he pitched for the Arizona Diamondbacks scout team. At the plate for the Bears they bring back Long Beach State Commit Drew Douglas, Harvard Commit Gavin Smith, Washington Commit Max Madrid, CSU Pueblo Commit Tyler Clementz and Yavapai Commit Nathan Nichols. In the 2022 season Madrid had a team high .418 avg with 5 doubles, 2 triples and a homerun. Leading last year's juniors in RBI’s is senior Drew Douglas, Douglas hit .341 with 4 doubles, 3 triples, 2 homeruns and 18 RBI’s. Team leader with 31 hits last season is senior Tyler Clementz. Clementz hit .365 with 5 doubles and 15 RBI’s. The Arizona staff is looking forward to following Basha this season as they are high contenders to bring home a state title in 2023.
