Progress Report: Marcus Harrison

Brett Thorney
State Scouting Director

PBR has had the chance to dig through the players and numbers from the past year, we have had a chance to see some players make some significant jumps recently. Today, we will be taking a look at a "Progress Report" feature that highlights players that have shown significant improvement in their game; whether it's on the mechanical end, performance wise, physicality or in the measurable statistic department. The "Progress Report" can be a minor improvement in recent months or a substantial transformation over time. Today we will be taking a look at '21 SS/3B Marcus Harrison (Corona Del Sol)

2021 SS/3B Marcus Harrison (Corona Del Sol) uncommitted, last attended a PBR event back in the summer of 2018. He put up respectable numbers as a young middle infield prospect. He's developed quite a bit since, now coming in at 6-foot-2 180+ pounds. The frame may even standout a bit more than what he's listed at. Harrison is a more than capable shortstop for Corona Del Sol that spent alot of time at 3B this spring due to standout, Hunter Haas locking down the middle. Harrison may profile a bit better at the corner in the future anyways as he continues to get bigger and stronger. He has sure hands, long limbs with flexibility in his lower half combined with a good arm across the diamond. Offensively, he was in for solid season before the season was shut down, hitting over .330 in a short season. He also has some power potential right now and it should start to come more in game with the strength. He has the athleticism to make some positive adjustments. Harrison should be one of the top 2021 infield prospects in AZ to follow into the summer.

Scouting Report

6/6/18 - 6-foot, 150-pound frame. Athletic build, lots of room to fill out. At the plate Harrison starts with his hands high and then shifts weight onto back leg before taking a short stride. Hands work down and to the ball resulting in a negative attack angle at times. Body remained tall after contact, high follow through; 79 mph exit velocity. Defensively Harrison impressed with solid actions as a middle infielder. Positions and angles body well. Fields ball out in front, funnels ball into body, clean exchange, keeps feet moving the whole time. Comfortable moving to both sides and throwing on the run; 76 mph infield velocity. Also posted a 7.10 60-yard dash and is a strong follow moving forward.
