Prospect Identification Showcase 6.11.13 - Position Player Analysis



The Prospect Identification Showcase on June 11 brought out a bunch of talented prospects from around the state. Ian Kristan took the top spot in our breakdown of the position players. Kristan is a big bodied 6-foot-3, 200-pound left handed hitting catcher showing pop at the dish. Here's a look at the rest of the position player breakdowns.

Top Position Players

1. Ian Kristan, C, Carmel Catholic, 2014
Kristan is a physical 6-foot-3, 200-pound catcher who shows solid ability offensive and defensively.  Recorded pop times between 2.01 and 2.12, throwing 76 mph from the crouch.  Shorter arm action will improve pop times.  Displayed above average bat speed at the plate, swinging aggressively with good pop and worked the middle of the field.  Has some whip, level plane, and extends through the ball – recorded an exit velocity of 82 mph.  Ran a 7.52 60.

2. Chris Baker, OF, Marian Catholic Central, 2014
Baker is a projectable 6-foot, 180-pound left-handed hitting, right-handed throwing outfielder.  Has a strong, athletic frame.  Ran a 7.15 60.  Made accurate throws from the outfield with some carry at 84 mph.  Showed solid hitting abilities at the plate – starting in a balanced setup and pre-pitch rhythm, with a smooth load and short stride.  Hits with above average bat speed and a firm front side.  The ball jumps off his bat and could even generate more pop with a more explosive lower half.  Recorded an 86 mph exit speed.

3. Tyler Engel, SS, VIT, 2015
The 5-foot-10, 160-pound infielder displayed high-level talent and natural baseball instincts throughout the showcase.  Engel ran a 6.67 60 and showed great athleticism defensively playing through the ball well.  Has fluid feet, soft hands, and a quick exchange, throwing with some carry across the infield at 77 mph.  Athleticism shown at the plate as well.  Engel hits in a balanced setup, smooth load and short stride, and has presence at the plate.  Showcased above average bat speed with a short, level swing extending through the ball showing strength at the plate with good pop and maintains balance throughout the swing.  Recorded an exit speed of 81 mph. 

4. Cody Grosse, SS, Joliet West, 2015
Grosse is a 5-foot-7, 135-pound left-handed hitting middle infielder who showed high-level defensive actions. Fields the ball with rhythm, taking advanced angles, and plays through the ball well. He moves with fluidity and purpose, and has a clean, quick exchange.  Threw 74 mph across the infield.  Athletically, he ran a 7.01 60 and a 4.29 home to first.  At the plate, Grosse hits from the left side in a balanced stance and has a smooth load with a short stride.  Maintains excellent balance throughout, and has a level, line-drive swing. 

5. Adam Rojas, C, St. Charles East, 2014
Rojas is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting and fielding catcher who displayed great defense recording consistently good pop times between 1.94 and 2.02, throwing at 74 mph from the crouch.  Showed great, efficient feet, quick release, and carry on the throw.  Hits from a balanced setup using a long stride.  Exit speed recorded at 72 mph; 60 time was 7.72.

6. Cody Rupp, OF/MIF, Limestone, 2014
Rupp is a 5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitting and fielding outfielder and middle infielder who displayed great athleticism throughout the showcase.  Ran a 7.13 60 and defensively showed athletic ability throwing 85 mph from the outfield and 76 mph across the infield.  Had athletic feet in the outfield and quick infield actions with soft hands, fluid footwork, and the ability to adjust his arm angle with the demand of the throw.  Offensively, has a quiet, balanced approach with a level, line-drive bat path.  Exit speed at 76 mph.

7. Quincy Jones, OF, Homewood-Flossmoor, 2014
Jones showed to be a projectable player.  At 6-foot-1, 155 pounds, Jones has room to fill out his athletic body-type.  The ball jumped out of his hand from the outfield, showed some carry at 84 mph.  Also displayed solid offensive ability – hits from a balanced setup and has a short swing making contact on an uphill plane.  Recorded an exit velocity of 86 mph.  Jones ran a 7.38 60 at the showcase. 

8. Mick Best, OF/MIF, Peoria Notre Dame, 2014
Best is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound outfielder and middle-infielder who displayed good potential at the showcase.  Ran a 7.15 60.  Defensively showed fluid footwork with an accurate and strong arm from the outfield (86 mph) and infield (81 mph).  Recorded an exit velocity of 85 mph off the tee.  Hits from a balanced setup using a smooth leg-kick trigger as his load and maintains a level swing with some pop. 

9. Nicholas Grandolfo, OF, Carmel Catholic, 2014
Grandolfo is a 6-foot-1, 155-pound lanky right-handed hitting and throwing outfielder who knows how to play the position.  Solid and athletic defender with quick instincts.  Displayed fluid feet and soft hands, showing some carry on his throws at 82 mph.  Also showcased some speed running a 7.03 60.  Recorded an exit velocity of 78 mph.  With polished mechanics at the plate and room to fill out, Grandolfo could project at a high level. 

10. Connor Mapes, MIF/OF, Champaign, 2015
Mapes is a 6-foot-1, 170-pound middle-infielder and outfielder who was solid defensively from the outfield – displayed athletic and energetic footwork, throwing with accuracy and some carry at 80 mph.  Hands worked well and threw 76 mph across the infield.  Line-drive hitter, starts in a wide setup showing a level bat path.  Can become a better hitter with more balance and extension.  Mapes ran a 7.13 60 and recorded an exit velocity of 79 mph. 

11. Zack Dowz, C/RHP, Addison Trail, 2014
Dowz is a 5-foot-11, 190-pound catcher and right-handed pitcher.  Solid defensively with good feel for the position behind the plate.  Recorded pop times between 2.08 and 2.14 throwing 74 mph from the crouch.  Hits with an open, upright setup at the plate and has an easy, fluid linear swing.  Recorded an exit velocity of 82 mph and ran a 7.26 60.  On the mound, Dowz showed easy effort in his delivery with short arm action and quick arm speed releasing the ball from a high ¾ arm angle.  Showed some rhythm in his delivery, working in line with his target and finishing balanced.  Keeps all three pitches down in the zone.  Fastball at 80-83 mph with some arm-side run; slider between 78-80 mph with 11/5 movement that occasionally flattened out; and changeup with arm-side run sitting 68-69 mph. 

12. Dennis Rudolph, RHP/OF, Glenbard West, 2014
The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder plays the outfield with confidence.  Rudolph has good rhythm defensively, and showed accuracy and some carry on his throws at 79 mph.  Ran one of the faster 60 times at 6.85.  At the plate he showed a level swing and recorded a 76 mph exit velocity. 

13. Nick Sanders, RHP/OF, Lake Zurich, 2016
The lanky 6-foot-2, 155-pound right-handed pitcher showed good potential on the mound.  Throws with short arm action and a high ¾ arm slot.  All three pitches showed life starting with his fastball which was thrown for strikes at 76-79 mph.  Curve had 11/5 action with some depth and gradual break ranging 61-64 mph.  Changeup had cutting action between 73-76 mph.  Showed good athleticism on the mound and running a 7.06 60.  At the plate, Sanders showed solid hitting ability with a consistent line-drive swing with a good bat path.  Has the tendency to over-rotate.  Recorded an 81 mph exit speed.  May project more at first base than the outfield. 

14. Matt Diehl, 3B/OF, Providence Catholic, 2015
Diehl is a 5-foot-9, 155-pound left-handed hitting third-baseman and outfielder.  Ran a 7.25 60.  Works hard defensively showing max effort and aggressiveness.  Threw 79 mph from the outfield and 74 mph across the infield.  Showcased a solid swing at the plate with a level plane, full extension, and some whip through the zone.  Recorded an exit velocity of 75 mph. 

15. Connor Pauly, OF/LHP, Glenbrook South, 2015
Pauly is a 6-foot, 160-pound left-handed hitting and throwing outfielder and pitcher.  Displayed athleticism running a 7.08 60 and 4.25 home to first.  Showed athletic feet defensively, short arm action releasing from over the top with some accuracy at 78 mph.  At the plate Pauly hits from a tall setup and displayed a simple and balanced swing with above average bat speed.  Made contact on an uphill plane fully extending through the ball.  Exit velocity recorded at 79 mph.  On the mound, his fastball was at 73-75 mph, curve sitting at 69-70 mph, change ranging between 66-70 mph.

Matthew Alexander, C, Glenbrook North, 2014
Alexander is a 6-foot-1, 215-pound left-handed hitting catcher.  Recorded an exit velocity of 80 mph off the tee.  Ran a 7.38 60.  Recorded pop times between 2.25-2.3, throwing 71 mph from the crouch. 

Frank Amato, MIF/OF, Addison Trail, 2014
Amato is a 5-foot-8, 145-pound middle infielder and outfielder.  Hits and throws right-handed.  Ran a 7.52 60 and recorded a 65 mph exit speed.  Threw 75 mph from the outfield and 71 across the infield. 

Joe Amato, MIF, Addison Trail, 2014
Amato is a 5-foot-8, 150-pound right-handed hitting and fielding middle-infielder.  Ran a 7.58 60 at the showcase; threw 73 mph across the infield and recorded an exit velocity of 68 mph. 

Jake Batusich, C, Joliet Catholic, 2015
Batusich is a 5-foot-7, 160-pound catcher. Behind the plate, Batusich threw 64 mph from the crouch, ranging between 2.3 and 2.43 pop times.   Ran an 8.02 60 and recorded a 76 mph exit velocity.  Hits from the right side with a balanced, slightly open stance, using a leg-kick trigger.   

Robby Biesiada, OF, Naperville North, 2014
Biesiada is a 5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting and fielding outfielder.  Ran a 7.19 60 at the showcase; threw 76 mph from the outfield and recorded a 75 mph exit speed.

Seth Coffey, MIF, Ottawa, 2014
Coffey is a 5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting and fielding middle-infielder.  Ran a 7.26 60 and threw 78 mph across the infield.  Hits in a balanced setup with a short stride and showed good balance throughout the swing.  Showed a good approach keeping his hands inside the ball staying middle-away.  Coffey has above average bat speed with a short, level swing and extends well through the ball.  Exit velocity was 75 mph.

Ethan Compton, OF, Batavia, 2014
Compton is a 6-foot, 180-pound right-handed fielding and hitting outfielder.  Has short arm action and throws from over the top in the outfield with some accuracy at 82 mph.  Hits from a slight crouch at the plate with a level bat plane and an exit velocity of 78 mph.  Ran a 7.14 60. 

Alex Ewell, MIF/RHP, Oak Park-River Forest, 2015
Ewell is a 6-foot, 155-pound middle-infielder and right-handed pitcher.  On the mound, delivery shows loose arm action from a ¾ arm slot.  Fastball showed sink thrown 76-79 mph; curve sat 69-70 mph; and changeup at 68-71 mph.  Ewell ran a 7.4 60, threw 73 mph across the infield, and recorded a 73 mph exit velocity. 

Bobby Garrick, C, New Trier, 2014
Garrick is a 5-foot-8, 145-pound catcher.  Defensively showed efficient footwork and good carry on throws down to second at 71 mph.  Range between 2.33 and 2.4 pop times which could improve with a quicker transition.  Hits from the right side in a balanced setup with a smooth load and short stride.  Has a level bat plane.  Gets use out of his lower half and could improve at the plate with better balance throughout the swing.  Exit velocity at 79 mph and 60 time was 7.94. 

Rich Hernandez, 1B/LHP, McHenry, 2014
Hernandez is a 5-foot-10, 190-pound first-baseman and left-handed pitcher who also hits from the left side.  On the mound he delivers from a high ¾ slot with a fastball sat 79-80 mph, slider 67-68 mph, curve 62-63 mph, and changeup 67-68 mph.  At the plate, showed above average bat speed with some whip recording a 79 mph exit speed off the tee.  Needs work keeping his hands inside and extending through to prevent from rolling over.  Ran a 7.72 60. 

Jack Jomarron, RHP/3B, Lincoln Park, 2014
Jomarron is a 6-foot, 175-pound right-handed pitcher and third-baseman.  Fastball sat 72-74 mph, curveball 57-59 mph, changeup 65-68 mph.  Ran a 7.66 60; threw 76 mph across the infield and recorded an exit velocity of 77 mph. 

Danny Katz, RHP/SS, New Trier, 2015
Katz is a 5-foot-10, 130-pound right-handed pitcher and shortstop.  Delivers from a high ¾ slot, throws with easy effort and repeatable mechanics.  Has smooth rhythm, keeps his shoulders level, shows direction, and lands square in his delivery.  Katz has good feel and command for all three pitches: fastball sat 74-76 mph with some life and run; curve at 64-65 mph with 11/5 action, and changeup at 59-60 mph.  Velocity to be gained as his lanky build fills out.  Ran a 7.46 60 and threw 73 mph across the infield.  Hit from a quiet, balanced setup with a smooth load.  Exit velocity was 65 mph. 

Matt Kelly, RHP/MIF, St. Francis, 2014
Kelly is a 6-foot, 170-pound middle-infielder and right-handed pitcher.  Delivery showed some rhythm and short arm action with a high ¾ arm slot.  Fastball was straight but located at 80-82 mph; curve and slider also located, curve at 70-73 mph, slider 79-81 mph; changeup sat at 70-72 mph.  Kelly was a line-drive hitter at the plate with an exit velocity of 80 mph off the tee.  Threw 78 mph across the infield and ran a 7.45 60. 

Brady Kostecki, RHP/1B, Joliet Catholic, 2014
Kostecki is a 6-foot-4, 190-pound lanky right-handed pitcher and first-baseman.  Throws with long arm action coming from an over the top slot.  Has feel for all three pitches.  Located his fastball sitting 80-81 mph; good depth and command on his curve at 69-71 mph; changeup thrown between 71-74 mph.  Defensively, threw 72 mph across the infield.  Recorded an 88 mph exit velocity off the tee and ran a 7.78 60.

Brandon LaBunski, 1B/RHP, Glenbrook North, 2015
LaBunski is a 6-foot-3, 195-pound first-baseman and right-handed pitcher.  Ran an 8.13 60; threw 72 mph across the infield and recorded an 81 mph exit velocity.  On the mound, his fastball was between 67-70 mph, curve sitting 61-63 mph, changeup at 65-67 mph. 

Torian Lowery, RHP/OF, Lincoln Park, 2013
Lowery is 5-foot-11, 155 pounds, hits and throws right-handed.  Threw 75 mph from the outfield and recorded a 75 mph exit velocity off the tee.  Pitching, his fastball sat 74-76 mph, curve between 62-64 mph, and changeup at 71-73 mph. 

Francisco Mari, RHP/OF, Elgin, 2014
Mari proved to be a solid two-way player.  The athletically built right-handed pitcher and outfielder has some room to fill out his 6-foot-3, 170-pound frame.  Fastball showed life with some run and sink, and thrown for strikes sitting 80-81 mph.  Locates his 11/5 curveball well at 62-64 mph.  Throws a straight change ranging 67-69 mph.  Displayed solid defense and threw 81 mph from the outfield.  Hits from a balanced setup with a smooth load.  Line-drive hitter with above average bat speed, recording an 81 mph exit velocity.  Ran a 7.45 60. 

James Mays, OF, Lake Central (IN), 2015
Mays is a 5-foot-5, 175-pound outfielder.  Hits and throws right-handed.  Ran a 7.78 60 at the showcase; threw 72 mph from the outfield and recorded an exit velocity of 81 mph. 

Kellen McCormick, SS/MIF, Honogegah, 2015
McCormick is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting and throwing middle-infielder.  Ran a 7.53 60; threw 69 mph across the infield and recorded a 74 mph exit velocity. 

Josh Mead, SS/RHP, Bureau  Valley, 2015
Mead is a 5-foot-10, 175-pound shortstop and right-handed pitcher.  Ran a 7.25 60.  Threw across the infield at 78 mph and recorded an exit velocity of 82 mph.  On the mound, throws with short arm action at a high ¾ arm slot.  Fastball ranged between 77-81 mph, curve between 67-72 mph, and change at 61-64 mph. 

Jerome Minick, 1B, Oswego, 2014
The athletically built Minick is a 6-foot-2, 185-pound left-handed hitting and throwing first-baseman.  Displayed great hands defensively and threw 75 mph across the infield.  Showcased good pop offensively recording an exit velocity of 85 mph.  Will improve at the plate by adjusting his shoulders more even than an uphill plane.  Ran a 7.89 60. 

Kurtis Minton, C, St. Teresa, 2014
Minton is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound catcher who showed good athleticism throughout the showcase.  Recorded pop times between 2.01-2.08; throws from the crouch showed some carry at 76 mph.  Displayed a simple and efficient level swing and recorded a 78 mph exit velocity.  Ran a 7.38 60 and 4.44 home to first.

Nathan Mueller, MIF, Addison Trail, 2014
Mueller is a 5-foot-9, 140-pound, right-handed hitting and fielding middle-infielder.  Ran a 4.47 60 at the showcase.  Threw 74 mph across the infield and recorded a 70 mph exit velocity. 

Jack Myers, SS/RHP, Prairie Ridge, 2014
Myers is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound infielder and right-handed pitcher.  Ran a 7.19 60 at the showcase; threw 79 across the infield and recorded an exit velocity of 82 mph.  On the mound, Myers’ fastball sat 76-78 mph and curve at 68-71 mph.

Mario Navarro, OF/LHP, Guerin Prep, 2015
Navarro is a 5-foot-9, 145-pound outfielder and left-handed pitcher.  Showed rhythm and natural instincts defensively; threw 77 from the outfield and ran a 7.12 60.  Hits from a tall, open stance with a short, diving stride.  Exit velocity at 74 mph.  On the mound, Navarro throws from an over the top slot with a fastball maxing at 74 mph, curveball around 63-64 mph, and changeup between 67-69 mph. 

Niall O’Brien, OF, York, 2014
O’Brien is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound outfielder right-handed hitting and fielding.  Ran a 7.34 60; threw 77 mph from the outfield and recorded an 82 mph exit velocity. 

Evan Plonis, C/RHP, Benet, 2015
Plonis is a 6-foot-3, 160-pound catcher and right-handed pitcher.  Displayed good offensive ability at the plate: showed some pop recording an exit velocity of 81 mph and capable of creating lift on the ball.  Behind the plate, Plonis recorded pop times between 2.43-2.45, throwing 71 mph from the crouch.  Ran a 7.88 60.  On the mound, his fastball was at 71-72 mph, curve around 58-60 mph, and changeup sitting 64-66 mph. 

Lucas Robbins, RHP/1B, Manteno, 2015
Robbins is a 6-foot, 205-pound right-handed pitcher and first-baseman.  Ran a 7.7 60; threw 76 mph across the infield; recorded an exit speed of 72 mph.  On the mound, sat 78-80 mph on his fastball, curveball at 65-66 mph, changeup ranging 73-76 mph. 

Austyn Ruback, 3B/OF, Grayslake North, 2014
Ruback is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound third-baseman and outfielder.  Ruback threw 80 mph from the outfield and 76 mph across the infield.  Hits from a balanced setup and smoothly rocks back for timing.  Displayed some whip recording an exit speed of 80 mph.  Ran a 7.47 60. 

Joe Silva, OF, Hersey, 2014
Silva is a 6-foot, 185-pound left-handed hitting, right-handed throwing outfielder.  Showed good speed running a 7.15 60.  Threw 79 mph from the outfield, fielding the position well.  Displayed fast bat speed with full extension.  Recorded a 73 mph exit speed. 

Jimel Smith, OF/RHP, Lincoln Park, 2014
Smith is a 5-foot-6, 140-pound outfielder and right-handed pitcher.  Ran a 7.26 60 and 4.44 home to first.  Hits from the right side, recorded an exit velocity of 80 mph and threw 68 mph from the outfield.  On the mound, Smith comes from over the top slot with long arm action, topping out at 74 mph. 

Jack Stannard, LHP/1B, Oak Park-River Forest, 2015
The athletically built, 6-foot-1, 180-pound left-hander showed an impressive bullpen at the showcase.  Repeatable delivery with long arm action, Stannard threw two of his three pitches most effectively.  Fastball showed some life and arm-side run at 79-80 mph.  Changeup showed to be Stannard’s best off-speed, sitting at 74-75 mph displaying arm-side run and sink.  Curve had 12/6 action with some depth but needs development.  Showed some pop at the plate recording an 81 mph exit velocity.  Threw 72 mph across the infield and ran a 7.59 60.

Luke Styka, RHP/3B, Andrean (IN), 2015
Styka is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed pitcher and infielder.  On the mound, Styka shows some rhythm and works with great direction – keeps his shoulders level, body in line with his target, and lands square.  Locates his fastball between 74-77 mph, curve has 12/6 action with gradual break at 63-64 mph, and change is thrown for strikes with arm-side run with occasional fade sitting 64-65 mph.  Ran a 7.57 60 and threw 77 across the infield.  Showed some pop at the plate and recorded a 79 mph exit velocity. 

Logan Threlkeld, 3B/SS, Benton, 2016
Threlkeld is a 5-foot-9, 210-pound right-handed fielding and hitting infielder.  Sets up at the plate with an open stance and loads with a small leg kick.  Threlkeld showed some pop with his simple swing making contact on an uphill plane working gap-to-gap.  Better balance throughout the swing will improve his hitting ability.  Recorded an exit velocity of 79 mph; threw 74 mph across the infield and ran an 8.25 60. 

Jake Tiso, OF, Richmond Burton, 2014
Tiso is a 6-foot, 165-pound right-handed throwing, left-handed hitting outfielder.  Ran a 7.03 60 and 4.29 home to first.  Hit from a balanced setup at the plate with a smooth load and short stride.  Line-drive type hitter with a solid approach working all fields showing a short, level swing with good extension.  Recorded a 79 mph exit speed and threw 70 mph from the outfield.

Derrion Thomas, MIF/3B, Homewood-Flossmoor, 2014
Thomas is a 5-foot-7, 170-pound left-handed hitting middle infielder and third baseman who showed some pop and good power at the plate, with an exit velocity at 84 mph.  Hits in a balanced setup and shows good balance throughout the swing.  Defensively, displayed good, soft-receiving hands, and his arm across the infield showed good carry at 80 mph.  Ran a 7.2 60.  Power is sure to improve with longer extension. 

Morris Vasquez, SS/3B, Guerin Prep, 2015
Vasquez is a 5-foot-11, 167-pound infielder.  Ran a 7.19 60 at the showcase; threw 66 mph across the infield and recorded an exit velocity of 71 mph. 

Mark Waldron, 2B, Dundee-Crown, 2014
Waldron is a 5-foot-8, 150-pound switch-hitting second-baseman.  Ran a 7.26 60 at the showcase.  Defensively showed good accuracy and threw 66 mph across the infield.  Exit speed was at 77 mph. 

Kyle Wallbaum, 3B/RHP, Ottawa, 2014
Wallbaum is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound third-baseman and right-handed pitcher.  Explodes to the ball at the plate with above average bat speed.  Good pop off the bat recording an exit speed of 85 mph.  Will improve offensively with more consistent contact, as he has the tendency to over-rotate.  Defensively, showed accuracy and some carry, throwing 79 mph across the infield.  Ran a 7.2 60.  On the mound, Wallbaum had a violent delivery and max-effort throwing style.  Arm action was short, delivering from a high ¾ slot.  Fastball was straight, sitting at 80-81 mph, curve at 69-70 mph, and changeup from 66-69 mph. 

Jalan Williams, OF/RHP, Lincoln Park, 2014
Williams is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound outfielder and right-handed pitcher.  Ran a 7.59 60 at the showcase and threw 78 mph from the outfield.  Has a level and repeatable swing at the plate.  Exit velocity was 81 mph.  On the mound, Williams’ fastball ranging between 75-78 mph, curve ranging from 66-68 mph, and slider sitting 70-71mph. 

Cameron Wilson, C, Jacobs, 2016
Wilson is a 5-foot-8, 145-pound catcher who displayed plus defense for his age.  Recorded pop times at 2.26, 2.28, and 2.44 at 68 mph while showing solid, athletic feet.  Hits from a balanced setup with a short stride.  Wilson is a mechanical hitter with a repeatable swing.  Exit speed was 73 mph and ran a 8.44 60. 

Jake Zyzda, RHP/3B, Barrington, 2016
Zyzda shows good projection being a 2016 graduate at 6-feet, 190 pounds.  Good presence in the box – hits from a tall, slightly open stance.  Athletic swing on an uphill plane with some whip.  Recorded an 83 mph exit speed.  Great projection for him at the plate.  Throws 77 mph across the infield and ran a 7.57 60.  Definitely a position player to follow.  On the mound, Zyzda throws three pitches: fastball at 76-78 mph, curve between 62-65 mph, and change ranging 64-67 mph.
