By Andy Sroka
Illinois and Wisconsin Assistant Director

Today, Nov. 19, PBR Wisconsin has announced its 2021 showcase schedule for the upcoming winter circuit, slated to start on Feb 14, 2021, in Kenosha, leading up to the revised start of the WIAA baseball season.

If you’re curious to learn more about the Prep Baseball Report’s showcase structure, here’s an idea of what you can expect while attending and following a PBR showcase.

ABOUT PBR SHOWCASES

Since 2005, Prep Baseball Report’s mission has been to provide the most credible scouting and event platform to help players and recruiters alike. As baseball has evolved, so have we.

PBR has recently partnered with global leaders in the baseball technology and analysis space to deliver an unparalleled in-event and post-event experience. Now, at events across the country, players will receive actionable data from their event performance, captured by industry-leading technologies, so they can elevate their game and get to the next level. Players will now receive actionable, post-event data from our industry-leading partners, including: TrackMan, Blast Motion, and Driveline. In addition, players’ PBR profiles will host edited video from their showcase performance, complete with a scouting report and verified event statistics.

Below, we’re briefly outlining each of the upcoming showcases on the 2021 calendar. These six events are open to all high school-aged players (classes 2021 through 2024). Also, bear in mind that our colleagues at PBR Illinois are hosting a couple events for Wisconsin players to consider: the Unsigned Senior Showcase in the Chicagoland area, as well as the McHenry Preseason I.D., stationed near the Wisconsin-Illinois border.

KENOSHA PRESEASON I.D.

Wisconsin’s winter showcase season begins, again, at Kenosha’s Fielder’s Choice Facility. Perennially, this event has helped introduce us to new follows from the southeastern part of the state. For example, at our 2020 showcase, we got updated looks at rising prospects and juniors at the time, INF Nicklas Williams (Union Grove, 2021; Wabash Valley JC commit), OF Anthony Gross (Catholic Memorial, 2021), and INF Sawyer Smith (Shoreland Lutheran, 2021; St. Cloud State). This event frequently starts to reveal the gains made from Wisconsin prospects after another offseason.

WEST MILWAUKEE PRESEASON I.D.

This will be our third annual trip to STiKS Academy in the preseason to host this event, one that helped our staff identify a few members of Team Wisconsin’s 2020 PBR Future Games roster, eventually. The likes of RHP Ryan Karst (Brookfield East, 2022) and RHP Thomas Harper (Wauwatosa East, 2022) landed roster spots at the prestigious August event, as well as the state’s top-ranked junior backstop, Charlie Jarvis (Catholic Memorial, 2022). Our staff is looking forward to returning to this Waukesha-area event again in 2021.

FOX CITIES PRESEASON I.D.

This Appleton-area showcase consistently provides us many looks into the top players from this part of the state, a region we aren’t able to get to often enough. It was at this event that OF Joey Nerat (Campbellsport, 2022) began his ascent within the state, and eventually to the No. 15 overall spot on the junior rankings. There are a plethora 2021 classmates who propelled themselves as follows, eventually earning commitments late this summer and fall. RHP Gradin Taschner (Neenah, 2022), RHP Ben Lee (Amherst, 2022), and RHP Presley Wachowiak (Catholic Memorial, 2023) are three of the top arms in their respective classes, and they made strong first impressions here, back at the start of the year. This is typically a large, important event on our calendar that gives us a chance to examine northeastern and north central Wisconsin.

SOUTH MILWAUKEE PRESEASON I.D.

Hosted at Hitters Baseball Academy each year, this event has historically been the most talent-laden event on our calendar, and it’s also our longest running. For example, several of the state’s top-ranked seniors and juniors were in attendance last March. Shortstops Noah Miller (Ozaukee, 2021; Alabama) and Gavin Kilen (Janesville Craig, 2022; Louisville) are currently the top players in their respective classes, and Alex Alicea (St. Thomas More, 2023; Louisville) is the No. 2-ranked player in the state’s ‘23 class. In addition, there were nine total players invited to the PBR Future Games on this event’s 2020 roster.

MADISON PRESEASON I.D.

This is our largest event on the calendar, traditionally. Over 200 Wisconsin players joined us at this event last March, helping us identify several high-interest 2021s in the state who were either uncommitted at the time or still are, like SS Carson Shepard (Sun Prairie; Ohio) and OF Tanner Marsh (Mondovi; St. Thomas), who were both coincidentally Team Wisconsin members in 2019. As per usual, we found invites to the 2020 PBR Future Games here, too, like RHP Mason Buss (Arrowhead, 2022; Kansas State), OF Cuyler Zukowski (Madison La Follette, 2022; Creighton), OF Addison Ostrenga (Sun Prairie, 2022; Iowa), and Logan Dobberstein (Pewaukee, 2022; Kansas State), among three others. It’s a staple event on the annual winter schedule, and we’re eager for our next trip to the state capitol.

MILWAUKEE PRESEASON I.D.

For the first time ever, we’re headed to Ballpark Commons, neighboring The Rock Complex, to help christen the brand-new sporting facility opening in Franklin: the Midwest Orthopedic Specialty Hospital Performance Center – or the MOSH for short. This state-of-the-art facility will be open near the start of the new year, and we’re excited to help celebrate its launch with this new showcase in Milwaukee County.
