The Southern Colorado Prospect Games took place on Saturday September 13th and Sunday September 14th, at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. This year’s event featured several talented, uncommitted players in Colorado’s 2015 through 2018 classes. In our first positional analysis of the event we will take a look at the top outfielders. At the event we had a lot of players who play multiple positions. Today we are going to showcase two outfielders. The first is 2016 grad Ryan Faircloth from Dakota Ridge High School, and Uncommitted 2015 grad Marc Alva from Columbine High School.
Top Outfield Prospects
1. Ryan Faircloth, OF, Dakota Ridge High School, 2016
5-foot-10, 150-pound athletic outfielder impressed with an outfield velocity at 78 mph, but we have seen him throw 81 from the position before. Throws from a long ¾ slinging arm slot with some accuracy. Hits from an athletic slightly closed setup, load is minimal with hands already back with a good approach up the middle of the field. Showed good bat speed with a short level bat path produced several line drives from gap-to-gap with 81 mph exit velocity. During batting hit some very hard drives. During the games impressed with his aggressive base running showing the ability to steal bases and also hit a triple. Ran a 7.28 60 against the wind. We have seen him run a 7.1 before. Had a 4.38 home to first time.
2. Marc Alva, OF, Columbine, 2015
5-foot-8, 155-pound left-handed hitting RHP/OF hits from a balanced stance and hands load back smooth. Swing produces explosive bat speed with a bat path that is level with good extension through the zone. Has gap to gap line drive power that produces 87 mph exit velocity. Gets in trouble when he wants to lift ball. When he stays square through the ball he produces very hard line drives. Defensively charges ball aggressively in the outfield and threw 78 mph. On the mound threw 75-78 mph which was improved from last event with a quick, high ¾ arm slot with a solid feel for three pitches. His 67-68 mph curveball showed slurry 11/5 sweeping action and was thrown for strikes. Has a quick pick to first base. Improved his 60 time to 6.94 from 7.0 last time we had him on a watch.
*Note, there were a lot of outfielders that also pitched. We will be highlighting these players in the upcoming pitching analysis.
