Buddy Gouldsmith
Nevada Scouting Director

2021 Dylan Dirig, 3B, (Desert Oasis)

Developing, 5-foot-10, 155, Dirig has an athletic build with present wiry strength. In the infield, Dirig offers reliable actions with the arm strength to play on the left side.  Foot speed limit the range for middle infield so he is more suited to third base.  His short, quick arm action lend well to balls that will need to be knocked down or dove for. He fields with confident hands and has the potential to offer value at the hot corner in addition to behind the dish. At the plate, he utilizes a no stride approach with a heel up, heel down trigger. He maintains a down to level swing with strength in his barrel, making solid contact. Dirig has made big strides in a short period of time and is a rising prospect.  Look for him to move up some lists.

2020 Noah Glaser 1B (Bishop Gorman)

Mature, 5-foot-11, 185, Glaser has a compact frame from with present weight and strength.  He likely possesses limited physical projection but has good control of his actions and feel for footwork around the first base bag. He can drop his arm angle to start double play feeds and demonstrates pick skills. At the plate, Glaser utilizes an open stance to start and strides closed. He makes consistent quality contact.  He employs mostly a pull side approach with some natural loft to his swing and strength in his barrel.  He has good balance and trusts his strength so as not to overswing.  Glaser’s real strength is on the mound but he is a capable hitter and could have some value as a hitter for a smaller school employing two way players.

2022, Grayson Parmer, 3B

Youthful, 6-foot 175, Parmer has a thick wide frame in a developing body. Present mass and strength will benefit from natural maturation and strength/conditioning program.  Work and repetition will foster unpolished actions that are best suited for corner infield position. He has a working knowledge of infield mechanics but footwork and rhythm need to work in concert.  He throws from a low ¾ slot that hinders carry, in spite of recognizable arm strength.  At the plate, he relies on strength over bat speed. He has a manageable length to his slightly uphill swing. Contact consistency requires present attention but when he gets a hold of it, it has a chance to go for a while.

2020 Everett Williams, 3B, (Damonte Ranch)

Durable, 6-foot 190, Williams is strong with a developed lower half.  He has soft, capable hands with the actions for an everyday third baseman.  Look for him to develop a wider range of arms slots moving forward to add to his arsenal.  In the box, Williams starts open and strides closed he stays tall with a subtle hand load, riding his front leg for timing.  The swing is strength oriented with natural loft producing noticeable pull side power.  There is the potential for greater carry if he can get into his legs more, but he has a feel for his power and knows how to get to it.  Some may want to see him move to first base down the road, but his actions and feel deserve a long hard look at third base.  Williams has the ability to be a middle of the lineup guy at the next level.

2021 Austin Cates, 3B (Coronado)

Thick, 6-foot 205, Cates is a burly infielder with present weight and strength in his lower half. His youth may bring growth, allowing him to lean. He has reliable infield actions and fields ground balls with confidence.  Speed and range will lend in a move to first base but with work and development of his physique, he may be able to stay at the hot corner. He has enough arm strength and will develop multiple angles for necessary throws.  Cates is a left-handed hitter with a simple, small stride and a two-handed finish on a narrow base for his size.  He leans a little at the waste, compelling him to generate a little length to swing around is head with an uphill path.  He frequently creates top spin on contact, looking to pull most of the time, but when he catches it right it is easy to see some power down the line.

2022 Tai Nguyen 1B (Bishop Gorman)

Thick, 6-foot, 210, Nguyen has a stocky, strong body with a developed lower half.  He moves well for his size and is a better underway runner than one would expect. He has capable infield actions with a longer draw on his arm which keeps him at first base. Make no mistake, Nguyen’s bat is going to carry him. He has great balance at the plate, keeping his weight between his feet throughout the process.  He trusts his strength and bat speed and has solid barrel release with a high finish, providing recognizable power. He posted the second best exit velocity at 102 mph, which exemplifies the whip in his barrel. Hard to believe he is a freshman with the feel he has as a hitter, this guy projects as a middle of the order type bat.

2022 Parker Vint, 3B (Coronado)

Looks the part, 6-foot-2 185, Vint is a projectable infielder with the size and skill set to be special. He has soft hands noticeable upon fielding some in-between hops.  His rhythm and internal clock are developing but time will cure with present feel. He ran well underway and turned in a solid 60 time for age and size at 7.16.  His  size and strength could very well improve.  At the plate, he uses a leg kick trigger with his knee remaining over his front ankle for the most part. Leans a little bit out over the plate, creating a manageable length to his swing, consistently barreling the ball. Huge upside for Vint who has the ability to stay on the left side of the infield and could profile as a third baseman at the next level.

2020 Demitrius Vigil, 2B (Basic)

Lanky, 6-foot-3, 175, Vigil is a lean, projectable infielder that may grow himself right out of the middle infield. He has noticeable actions for the position and can vary arms slots to necessary throws.  He has enough arm strength to play on the left side, but shear size and length to actions may move him to corner positions or profile on the mound at the next level.  He posted a 6.9 60 time which displays his athleticism as he ran well underway.  In the box, he stands tall with a well balance approach employing a small leg kick, striding even with a down to level path and high finish.  He has projectable power, maintaining good posture and a proportionally short swing for a hitter with his levers. Vigil is an intriguing prospect and his athleticism will really take over when he stops growing. Keep an eye on this guy.

2020 Josh Johnson, SS (Coronado)

Athletic, 6-foot-1, 180, Johnson is a projectable infielder with room for weight and strength gains. He has reliable infield actions and fields with confidence.  With size and strength gains, he may profile at third base down the line.  He has enough arm strength to play anywhere on the field and a feel for changing his arm slot to start double plays and make plays on the run. At the plate, He stands with slightly flexed legs, utilizing a leg kick trigger and tipping the barrel while swinging with bat speed, exemplified by his 94 mph exit velocity. He has good barrel release and projectable power with a combination of bat speed and leverage, maintaining good posture throughout his swing. if Johnson's arm strength and feel transition to the mound, he may very well be a legit two-way player in college.
