season preview

After an impressive 18-10 record and regional quarter-finals finish in the state playoffs a season ago, the Hawley Bearcats enter 2017 with a ball club only scratching the surface. Head Coach Jamie Seago will be looking to seniors such as Cade Frazier, a do-it-all dynamo looking to build off of a junior year where he hit .338 with 20 RBI. Accompanying Frazier is third baseman Jody Hicks, another solid contributor who hit .326, driving in 25 runs. Multi-sport athletes Quay Stokes and Shane Guerra will once again add speed on the base paths, while Saxon Jones is an experienced bat who adds veteran presence in left field.

Atop the pitching staff is Lane Culp, a crafty righty who pitched to the tune of a 1.35 ERA in his junior season. Using all of his pitches with an abundance of wit, Culp is set to lead a team effort as Coach Seago brings back a variety of arms still growing into their own.
