Team OK: Workout Day, Data Dive

Scott Hood
OK/MO/KS/ARK Assistant Scouting Director

With the Future Games wrapping up this past weekend we start our post event coverage with a look at some of the top performers from the workout day with multiple position players from Oklahoma finding themselves near the top of the pack.  The Future Games features the top uncommitted prospects from the 2025 and 2026 classes from all across the country, so if you see something at the top of the list you know it means something significant.  Whether it is the laser timed 60's, Trackman and Blast data from the BP sessions, or the old-fashioned stopwatch and radar gun, the Oklahomans had a couple that really put their name on the map during the workout.   Be on the lookout in the coming days as we break down each individual prospect with a more in-depth breakdown of their week and their game.

THE 60

With our partnerships with Swift Labs, PBR is able to bring the most consistent data when it comes to running times throughout the country.  Every laser and test is run the same way so there are no fast/slow watches.  What you run on the Swift laser is comparable to what everyone else runs.  One of the strongest suits for this year's roster in Oklahoma was the incredible depth of speed.  It started with 2025 OF Beckett Robinson and his Team OK leading 6.58 60 which was good enough to finished tied for 11th for the fastest run at the event.  Not too far behind him was 2025 INF/OF Bryce Tapley coming in at tied for 15th at 6.63, 2025 OF Rhett Winchester coming in with the 18th fastest time at 6.66, and 2025 INF/OF Eli Ramirez coming in at 19th with a 6.67.

While the 60 has become the standard practice in the sport of baseball to judge a player's speed, with the Swift lasers we are also able to give 10 yard and 30 yard splits to maybe give us more insight on who could be the most explosive right out of the gates.  Robinson picked up the second fastest 10 yard split from the event with a blazing 1.57 and Ramirez right behind him tying for 3rd with a 1.58.  Tapley saw his time come in 4th moving at 1.59 seconds.  Tapley also led the OK squad with an event 6th best 30 split at 3.67 with Ramirez right behind him at 3.68.

All told, Team OK had 7 out of the 13 runners run sub 7 seconds for an average time of 6.96 at the workout.

TRACKMAN DATA

A good swing with hard contact is easy to identify for even some of the more novice scouts around, however with the help of Trackman during the BP session we are able to dial in just how well some of these guys performed.  Starting with the Exit Velocities it was 2025 SS Carson Brumbaugh who stole the show.  He finished third in Max Exit Velocity with a 103.6 mph reading and was second in the event in AVG Exit Velocity across his two rounds with an eye popping 97.9 mph average.  2025 C/OF Cash Williams also showed off his impressive strength reaching up to 99.4 mph which was good enough for the 18th best reading at the event.  Ramirez followed up his impressive run times with a 98.2 mph exit velocity which landed him with the 26th best reading and his 94.3 mph average exit velocity was good enough for 10th from the event.

Throughout the workout there was only one player that had a higher average distance than 2025 OF Joey McLaughlin who came in 2nd with his 331 ft average while his farthest ball hit at 384 was good enough for 10th on the list.  Brumbaugh's 390 ft shot was good enough for 4th on the list and Cash Williams put up the 6th longest shot at 388 ft.

You can't do any better when it comes to the hard-hit percentage than the 100% mark that Brumbaugh reached across his two rounds showing his ability to make consistent hard contact on the barrel.  Ramirez put together the 5th best hard-hit percentage at an impressive 83 percent.

BLAST DATA

There is a lot that goes into a good swing with rhythm, timing, pitch recognition etc.  Everyone knows what quick hands and strong bat speed looks like from the naked eye but it can be difficult to measure who's got more.  With the help of Blast Motion we can see exactly who has some of the top swing metrics with multiple Okies topping the charts throughout the workout day.

One of the harder aspects of the swing to train is overall bat speed.  Having bat speed not only translates to more power potential, it allows a hitter to see balls deeper into the zone and handle plus velocities much easier.  Joey McLaughlin showed big-time bat speed in the workout with the second highest mark from the event at 89.1 mph.  Right behind him was 2025 INF/OF Cooper Auschwitz finishing in third place in the event at 88.9 mph.  When it comes to swinging the bat with high ends of bat speed repeatably it was Carson Brumbaugh finishing 7th in the event at 77.9 mph.  Brumbaugh also had an event leading 28 mph hand speed max and led the event in hand speed average as well at 26.9 mph.

How quickly you are able to get the barrel moving quickly in the swing is measured by Blast Motion with it's rotational acceleration metric.  It was once again Carson Brumbaugh leading the way at the event with a staggering number of 46.4 max and an average of 28.4G's of rotational force.

DEFENSIVE EVALUATIONS

The game can be played effectively without a ton of arm strength but it is one of the tools that is better to have than not.  Starting in the infield it was Brumbaugh who took home the highest infield velo arm at 93 mph across the diamond.  Right behind him and tying for second from the event was Eli Ramirez at 92 mph.  Coming in a tie for 6th on the infield charts at 88 mph were 2026 INF Cooper Kardokus and Bryce Tapley.  Right behind them in 7th place was 2025 Cooper Auschwitz.

In the outfield, Eli Ramirez showcased his big arm coming in 2nd once again this time at 94 mph.  Bryce Tapley also showed his versatility coming in 7th place at 89 mph.

Behind the plate, Cash Williams tied his Future Games record for pop times that he set last year as a freshman at 1.78 which is 5 tenths better than second place at 1.83.  His ability to not only get the ball out of the glove but show extreme carry to the bag is a true separator from his peers in the class.  2025 C Mason Pickering turned in the third quickest pop time at the event at 1.85 giving Team OK two of the quickest draws at the event.

Multiple guys put up strong performances not only in the workout day but also in gameplay that should find themselves on recruiting radars in the coming weeks and months heading into their junior campaigns.  Be on the lookout for more in-depth breakdowns from our successful week out in Georgia as we dive deeper into individual players and their performances.
