Our first two analysis of the event focused on the catchers, outfielders, corners, and middle infielders.  Today we focus on a the pitchers.

Best of the Best

James Notary, RHP, Broomfield, 2017
6-foot-2, 180 pounds. Bats and throws right. Notary was the most dominating pitcher at the event. Was voted best 2017 prospect at the event. Notary has good mechanics with a square, in-line over the top delivery that brings a 85-86 mph fastball to the plate. That was up from 82 mph last January.  Good led drive towards home that produces  good down angle and extension. Curveball was 12-6 shape with good tight spin at 71 mph. Change had some fade at 72. We did notice at times will slow down arm motion to throw both of those pitches. Projects to be a 90 mph thrower, and high prospect to watch.

Connor Nantkes, LHP, Cherokee Trail, 2017
6-foot-1, 180 pounds. Bats and throws left. Nantkes was voted most projectable arm at the event. Hands start high and has a very fluid motion to the plate. Square, in-line, and arm works real well with lower half. After delivery will slightly fall off to 3rd. Has a high 3/4 arm slot. Fastball is on you, and is thrown consistently at 81 to 82 mph but touched 84. Tails away from right handed hitters. Curveball has 1/7 shape and comes in at 68 mph with tight spin. Change has fade away from right handed hitters thrown at 70-71 mph. At the plate shows potential as a two-way player. Athletic balanced wide stance with slight crouch. Hips work good. Smooth swing off short stride. Gap to gap hitter with good bat speed. Generated 89 mph exit velocity off the tee. In the OF has solid fundamentals. Projects as a corner OF. Threw 77 from right to 3rd. Ran a 7.50 60.

Dalton Chandler, RHP, Lamar, 2018
6-foot-3, 180 pounds. Bats and throws right. Chandler is a big projectable body with a lot of potential. He was voted as the most projectable arm in the 2018 class at the event. Chandler comes at you with a fast, herky, jerkey motion. He can throw even harder if he gets more out of his lower half. Arm wraps back behind back, but is very loose and works well with body at a high 3/4 arm slot.  Chandler throws a heavy fastball that sat at 84-85 mph and a lot of movement into right handers. Falls off to first after delivery. Curveball had 11/5 shape sitting at 70-72 mph with good tilt. We love Chandler's upside and has the frame to develop a fastball that sits in the low 90's.

Best of the Rest (Listed Alphabetically)

Alex Clouthier, LHP, Mountain Vista, 2017
6-foot, 190 pounds. Clouthier is your classic crafty left-handed pitcher. Pitched four innings and did not give up any runs. He was voted pitcher with best three-pitch mix at the event. Keeps it simple with his mechanics. Very square to the plate with an over the top arm slot. Fastball sat 72-73 mph touching 74. That was up about 4 mph from last time we saw him. All three pitches have good arm speed keeping hitters off balanced because they are hard to pick up. Changeup came in at 61-62 mph that fades away from right handers. Curveball has 12-6 shape at 60 mph. Ran a 7.86 60

Evan Conklin, RHP, Littleton, 2017
6-foot-3, 180 pounds. Big tall right-hander on the mound. Delivery is effortless and works online, good balance, square, in-line to the plate with and over the top arm slot. Arm works good with lower half, and he gets good extension to the plate. Has a tendency to stop arm, and if he got a full arm whip could add more velocity. Throws strikes with all three pitches. Fastball sits at 72 mph. Curveball and change up come in at same speeds of 61 mph. Ran a 7.31 60.

Ricardo Juarez, RHP/OF, Holly, 2017
5-foot-11, 180 pounds. Bats and throws right. Juarez was also voted as the most projectable arm in the 2017 class. Juarez was the surprise at the event coming from small school Holly. On the mound he has a very quick arm to the plate from a high 3/4 arm angle. Jaurez uses good leg drive to generated great extension to the plate. Fastball sat at 83-84 mph, and curveball had good 11/5 shape. At the plate Juarez has a tall, wide stance with leg kick. Generates gap to gap power with level fast swing through the zone. Produced a 86 mph exit velo. In the outfield projects as a corner outfielder. Threw 77 mph with good carry. Ran a 7.88 60. High player to follow in 2017.

Cody Kohl, RHP, ThunderRidge, 2017
5-foot-10, 165 pounds. Bats and throws right. We love Kohl's mechanics to the plate. Very sound, square, and great leg drive with good extension. Throws off two-feet. Kohl attacks the strike zone with good down angle form a high 3/4 arm slot. Fastball is consistently 80-81 mph touching 82. Curveball is has tight 11/5 shape at 65-66 mph. Change came in at 71-72 mph. Competes on the mound. With extra weight could project into mid to upper 80's. At the plate has an open stance, short stride with slight uphill swing. Line drive hitter that produced an exit velocity of 81 mph. Ran a 7.70 60.

Jason Mair, RHP, Discovery Canyon, 2018
5-foot-8, 135 pounds. Mair is square to the plate, in-line to home, then comes at you with an almost underneath arm slot. Fast ball is deceiving at 72 mph thrown for strikes with sink and down. Curveball was voted the best at the event. Almost frisbee like with a lot of action at 62-63. Batters could not square it up. Could be used as a weapon out of the bullpen.

Tim Mcintyer, RHP, ThunderRidge, 2017
6-foot-3, 170 pounds. Bats and throws right. Love his frame. Has a chance to add velocity as he gets bigger. Tall and lanky, stays tall and square through delivery with good extension to the plate, then slightly falls off to first base on landing. Has a high 3/4 arm slot and a long loose arm. Slightly wraps back. Fastball sat at 75-76 touching 77. Threw a changeup that was same arm speed as fastball at 68 mph. At the plate has a wide stance, toe tap stride. Long through the ball, and swing is long through the zone. Had an exit velo of 81 mph off the tee. Ran a 7.55 60 time.

Harry Paul, LHP, Fairview, 2018
5-foot-6, 130 pounds. Bats and throws left. Paul is your classic crafty lefty right now who depends on mixing up speeds to get you out. Did a good job of throwing strikes. Has good pace. Square to the plate. Hides ball pretty good. Throws from high 3/4 arm slot. Fastball sits at 64 mph. Touched 66. Curveball has 1/7 shape and comes in at 54. Batters have a hard time staying back, and he induced a lot of soft fly ball outs. At the plate has a balanced stance. Stands tall with level swing through the zone. Oppo field hitter. Had exit velocity of 69 mph. In the outfield has long arm action on throws from right to 3rd at 67 mph. Takes an extra step in crow-hop. Ran an 8.1 60.

Rocco Porreco, RHP/3B, Mullen, 2017
6-foot-1, 200 pounds. Bats and throws right. Porreco is is big frame on the mound that throws a heavy fastball. Was also voted 2017 pitcher with best breaking ball at the Top Prospect Games. Porreco has a square delivery to the plate, crouches in balance point, then throws from an over the top arm slot. Could get more extension if he worked on not throwing over stiff front knee. Fastball sits at 80-81, but touched 82. We came away impressed with his curveball that had very tight spin with 12/6 shape. At the plate shows some rhythm, loads back and has pull power with pretty level swing through the zone. Ball jumps off bat as evident with his 88 mph exit velo off a tee. At 3rd showed nice quick, soft feet for his size. Went backhand well and strong arm across diamond at 81 mph. Ran a 7.8 60. 2017 prospect to follow.

Padraic Walsh, RHP, Smoky Hill, 2017
6-foot-5, 165 pounds. Bats and throws right. Walsh really impressed at the Top Prospect Games striking out 9 in 4 innings of work. Walsh was voted as the most 2017 projectable arm. Has a long, lean frame with a lot of room to add bulk. Delivery is simple and effortless, square to plate and a high 3/4 arm slot and is righ on top of you. Fastball was in the lower 80's consistently and touched 82. Curveball has tight 11/5 shape at 66-67 mph. Walsh also ran a 7.5 60. Walsh is a high prospect to follow in the 2017 class.
