Scouting Report
6-foot, 220-pound two-way prospect recently relocated from Illinois and posted a monster day at Knoxville Fall Scout Day. Stout, powerful frame w/ good present strength. Offensively, hits in slightly crouched, open stance w/ moderate leg kick. Shows gap-to-gap power (Exit Velo: 95), favors pull side. Ball launches off the barrel. Defensively, showed good hands and plus arm (INF Velo: 90) at the hot corner. Closed out the event on the bump, pitched from simple- staggered windup w/ quick arm in 3/4 slot. Fastball worked 87-89 w/ good ride through zone and occasionally arm-side action. Curveball (72-74) is most established off-speed w/ good depth and 11/5 action, certainly S/M worthy. Highest upside pitch is the slider (76-77) w/ great speed and shape, yet tended to have more cut action. Utilized a split grip for changeup (73-75) showing some vertical depth, occasional fade. Jernigan projects as an offensive corner-infielder and 4-pitch mix arm w/ good FB and 2 distinct breaking ball offerings. Certainly could be consider one of the top uncommitted players of 2020.
