As we head into the fall, we are beginning to see tons of 2024 graduates make commitments to play at the next level. Indiana's 2024 class features a deep crop of talent, with plenty of prospects still left on the board. Today, we take a deeper look at '24 RHP Owen Backofen of Fishers HS.

Backofen offers projectability with his 6-foot-4, 190 pound frame and there is athleticism in the long-levered body. The Fishers product has a long, loose arm action that produced a fastball that has been up to 88 mph with some arm-side run and his changeup, thrown at 74-77 mph, comes out of the same H 3/4 arm slot as the fastball. Backofen has showed improvements on a sweeping, 71-74 mph slider that gets better each time I see him. There is still some rawness to the overall operation, but the projectable right-hander still has plenty of room for growth in his overall game.
