Background: From Red Deer, Alberta, Zach has grown up playing in the Red Deer Braves system. He has been a staple in the middle of the order for the Midget AAA Braves the past 2 seasons. At 6-foot 2, 200-pounds, Baker has room to add strength to add to his already existing power. He is a run producer who has a natural ability to elevate the ball. Swings with good intent, looking to do damage every time up. Catches the ball out in front, works to the pull side of the field. Recorded an exit velocity of 84 mph in Lethbridge at the first PBR Alberta event, and that number looks to climb as the winter progresses.
Need to Know: Baker finished 3rd in the league in doubles and RBI’s last season, with 14 and 35 respectfully. Shows a good knowledge of the strike zone, keeping his strikeouts totals down. Will once again be a cornerstone in the middle of the order for the Braves this summer. Baseball IQ will help him make a smooth transition to the college level.
