This spring we take a different approach to the unveiling of our Preseason Power25 teams across the commonwealth/DC. Instead of one full release, we will be doing a countdown starting today and running all the way to the beginning of the high school season. Over the course of the next 2.5 weeks, we will be counting down our preseason top 25.

VA/DC Preseason Power25: No. 8 - Liberty Christian

Preseason Rank: 8
Level: VHSL Class 4 Region D
Head Coach: Randy Tomlin
2018: 17-1 Lost in opening round of Region 4 D Playoffs

Top Players

aChristian Gordon LHP 2019 (Liberty, pictured)
Emmanuel Johnson OF/LHP 2019 (Liberty)
Quade Tomlin SS 2020 (Liberty)
Jacob Williams 3B 2019 (Middle Tennessee State)

X-Factor

Noah Robbins C/IF 2019 - Its easy to realize the depth and talent that is in the Liberty Chrsitian senior class this year, but that feared lineup isn't quite as deep as years past. Plug in the spark plug Robbins, who had a very nice season last spring. He will want to put together another solid season this spring to help compliment the talent on LCA.

Key Players Lost

Kyle Horton
Wes Clarke

Outlook

Should be another season with Liberty Christian as the favorite to come out on top of the Lynchburg area with another impressive roster still on tap this 2019 spring.

On the mound, look no further than Christian Gordon, who should again assume the ace role this spring for LCA. The Liberty commit might be the most polished pitcher in the state in the 2019 class and looks primed to have a very good season for Liberty Christian. Last year with the way the rain was, it was almost like they didn't even need a number two as Gordon was able to make more starts with proper rest. gordon had well over double the amount of innings than the second most. Emmanuel Johnson seems like he could fill in the role as No. 2 in the rotation as the he has the most inning of the returners and is more than capable to fill in the role very well. Johnson also has a fastball that has been up to 88 already this winter and plenty more in the tank. Bailey Reynolds and Jacob Williams will see time as well as relievers.

Offensively LCA will be paced by Johnson, Quade Tomlin, and Jacob Williams, who will form the astrength and meat of the order. Johnson (pictured) has explosive quick twitch from the left side and can be impressive. Tomlin does a lot of the same thing as a left-handed hitter, and his smooth swing will pepper the gaps and hit his fair share of long balls while he mans the middle of the infield. Williams also brings another power presence with the ability to hit for average as well from the right side. Just thinking about a potential combination of Johnson, Tomlin, and Williams as a potential 2-3-4 combination will give plenty of opposing head coaches a headache. Gordon also was a big contributor for the LCA attack hitting well over .400 last season. Pell Collins is coming off hitting over .500 last year and will just add another impressive stick to the LCA lineup. Bailey Reynolds should build off his season last year ad see more at bats this spring as well. Noah Robbins returns as well and should assume the catching duties full time this spring and could be a big contributor building off a really nice junior campaign.
