For the next two weeks we will roll out our Preseason Power 25. Three staff members voted on their version of the thirty best teams in the Preseason Power 25, with a possibility of 90 total vote points for each team. Since we released 25-11 last week, this week we will reveal two teams per day until we get through the complete Power 25 on Friday. Voting for preseason teams centers more around the depth of talent on that team, as well as where it stacks up within their region/area, as opposed to strictly predicting schedule outcomes.

Generally, larger schools and classifications have a greater depth of player talent on roster. However, once the season begins and records begin to take shape, the Power 25 will be adjusted as needed. In addition to that, we will debut our Private School Top 10 around April 1st and Small School Top 10 around mid-April.

After a tough year in 2023, the Miller School Mavericks are back and ready to climb back on top of VISAA Division I. The Mavericks are loaded with top tier talent and are very strong up the middle. See a full preview below.

#3 Miller School

2023 was an up and down year for the Miller School Mavericks. They play one of the toughest schedules of any team in the Mid-Atlantic and they do not shy away from competition. After a rough start to the season, the Miller School clawed its way into the VISAA playoffs, but lost a tight game to Benedictine in the quarterfinals. The Mavericks had five losses that were one run games, including their last four losses of the season that were all one run affairs. The 2024 roster has been overhauled from 2023 and they have added some big time pieces, including the top ranked junior in the state, Evan Hankins (Tennessee). Along with Hankins, they have added star outfielder Mandela Browman, infielder John Michael Szefc, infielder/pitcher Camdyn Via, and catcher Drew Lucy (College of Charleston). The lineup features some versatility up and down the order that will be tough to navigate. Ryan Jones (Patrick Henry CC), Jackson Rosales, Naomi Ryan, Dom Cafferillo (Georgetown), and Jackson Ingram (WVU) will join the new faces of Hankins, Browman, and Szefc as likely big pieces to this offensive puzzle. The one area that the Mavericks needed help was on the mound and it looks like the help has arrived. Not only will the potentially lean heavily on a now healthy Matthew Bobsin, a much improved Dillon O’Connor, and the reliable arms of Jake Rexrode and Kason Wagner, but they also have the new additions of Hankins and Via that will be able to provide some valuable innings for the Mavericks.

Final Thoughts:

"This team will play the toughest schedule of any team from Virginia/DC. They play the most games of any team from Virginia/DC. There are some new faces to this team, but make no mistake about it, these are experienced and talented players. Hankins is the biggest difference making add to this team, not only because of his abilities, but as a two-way player he will have the chance to make a big impact every single game they play. O'Connor's emergence, a healthy Bobsin, and consistent arms like Wagner and Rexrode make this staff much much better than last year's. Look up the middle of the field and you can see difference makers, which is a key to success. They may struggle in their early slate of tough games, but make no mistake about it, this team will be there in the end."
