Today we are releasing our weekly update to the Virginia/DC Power 25. Take a look at some new faces and some movement throughout the rankings.

This week's update was a little lighter for a couple of reasons.

1) There were a lot of variations in schedules due to spring break, weather, and lighter weeks in preparation for spring break this upcoming week.

2) Some of the top teams played in major national tournaments versus highly competitive teams and dropped some close games, but were not penalized due to the strength of opponents, their body of work in those games, and the fact that some others in high spots in the rankings won, but played some sub-par competition.

This next week could be somewhat similar in regards to rankings updates, with the Richmond and Beach area teams being on spring break this week.

A couple of updates we do have for this week's release:

  • Abingdon continues to dominate. The have rolled off six wins in an eleven day period, with three of them being by mercy.

  • Lightridge moves up after a 2-0 week in their spring break tournament that they hosted. The Bolts have six games in the next ten days and it will be a big test for this team.

  • Liberty Christian moves into the rankings after a few quality wins to start their season. The Bulldogs took down Freedom at Freedom two weeks ago and then knocked off Amherst in a close on last Friday night. Landon Owen has been the workhorse and the offense is showing up when needed.

  • We still have a handful of undefeated teams sitting outside of the Power 25 that are poised to move in, but when looking at the rankings, "strength of schedule" for some of those teams is quite a bit lower than some teams inside the rankings that have dropped a game or two. As the season moves on and they continue to win, they will find themselves moving in to the Power 25 rankings.
