Welcome to the 2018 VA/DC Scoreboard, where we will post scores and recaps from games around our coverage area. We will put the Scoreboard up twice a week this season. The Tuesday scoreboard will feature games from the weekend and Monday. A second Scoreboard will run on Friday mornings with scores from the week. In these posts, we will focus on making sure scores and some recaps are included for teams in or near our Power 25.

Power 25 Rankings in the scoreboard reflect where a team was ranked at the time the game was played.

VA/DC SCOREBOARD: APRIL 13-16

Friday, April 13

Woodgrove 10, No. 10 Riverside 9
Sam Upton had the walk-off RBI in the eighth inning. Hunter McCormick was 3-4 with 3 RBIs and Justin Hanvey (Radford) hit a home run. For Riverside, Carson Swank (Yale) was 2-4 with a 2B and David Setien piled up 11 strikeouts in 5 innings.

No. 13 St. Christopher’s 9, No. 22 Collegiate 6
Senior Nick Biddison (Virginia Tech) went 3-5 with 2 home runs and a 2B while driving in 4 runs. Donovan Murphy was also 3-5 with 2 RBIs for the Saints.

Rockbridge County 8, No. 14 Turner Ashby 5
Rockbridge brought the power, hitting three home runs in the game off the bats of Reeves Whitmore, Alex Balisteri, and Treyce McCormick. All three also finished the game with multiple hits.

No. 16 Madison 4, Westfield 1
Senior Jake Nielsen (BYU) threw 6.1 innings, allowing just 4 hits in the win. Ethan Lipp was 2-4 and Brendan Sweeney had 2 RBIs.

No. 25 McLean 5, Herndon 4
McLean walked it off in the seventh as Owen Ricketts delivered the winning hit. Ricketts finished 2-2 with 2 BB and an RBI. Yanni Farmakides was 2-3 with 2 RBIs.

Senior Nick Biddison (Virginia Tech) had another big day, going 2-4 with a 2B and a home run and 3 RBIs. Junior Patrick Routsis threw five scoreless innings of relief, striking out 8 as the Saints scored four runs in the top of the seventh to win the game.

No. 8 Paul VI Catholic 2, Gonzaga 1
Senior Jack Weeks (Georgetown) threw 5 innings of 2 hit ball while junior Nick Ortega was perfect in 2 innings of relief with 4 strikeouts. Riley Cox was 3-3 and JP Ottariano was 2-2 with a 2B.

No. 25 Highland School 6, Isle of Wight Academy 5
The Hawks scored all six of their runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, with Eddie Gimbel delivering the walk-off hit. Luke Burner was 2-2 with 2 BB and Garrett Pancione was 2-3.
