VICTORIA EAGLES SCOUT DAY: QUICK HITS

Drew Abercrombie SS / 2B / Esquimalt, BC / 2024Abercrombie had one of the better overall days at the Eagles Scout Day. It started with the 60 in which he ran a 6.85 and it continued at the dish. He has a quiet load and maintains controlled aggression working in the air towards his pull-side gap. On the defensive side of the ball, he has quick feet that allow him to move into a throwing position efficiently. He reached 84 mph across the infield. Abercrombie is a 2024 to follow as he heads into his senior season.

Wyatt Macdonald RHP / Lambrick Park, BC / 2024One of the best bullpens of the day belongs to Macdonald. The fastball has plenty of carry when up in the zone, topping out at 89.5 mph and sitting 85-87 mph. He also has the ability to spin both the fastball and the curveball, reaching 2579 rpm with the fastball and an impressive spin efficiency (97%). With the curveball, it has late downward bite in the 76-80 mph range reaching 2474 rpm. When paired well with the fastball, the curveball has the profile to be an effective swing & miss offering. The changeup, although still a developing offering, is a nice addition to the repertoire and comes in at 78-79 mph. Macdonald is a 2024 that should no longer be flying under the radar in BC.

Austin Blair OF / RHP / St Andrews Regional, BC / 2026Rankings StateRank: 8 / POS: 1
The 2026 is one of the most intriguing two-way players in BC. On the mound he showcased a FB/CB mix. With a fluid arm action his fastball topped 82.5mph. The fastball has plenty of life complimented by a delayed bite in his curveball. Defensively, Blair is an efficient route runner with elite instincts. The long, wiry build displayed a quick, strong swing that plays to both gaps. With Blair’s athleticism, doubles will quickly turn into triples. A definite up and coming 2026 to watch in BC.

Lukas Le Gras C / OF / Lambrick Park, BC / 2025Rankings StateRank: 3 / POS: 1
The uncommitted 2025 has proven over the past 6 months why he is one of Canada’s top catchers. With a 1.90 pop time, Le Gras gets rid of the ball quickly and is a threat to any team’s run game. His swing possesses pull-side pop with the ability to adapt and drive outer half pitches to the right side. As Le Gras gains size, his bat will have consistent power potential. The Victoria Eagle is an asset on both sides of the ball and won’t be uncommitted for long.

Sawyer Gelling 2B / RHP / Lambrick Park, BC / 2027Gelling was a standout two-way player at the Victoria Eagles Scout Day event. On the mound he filled the zone with a FB, CB, CH mix. His fastball topped 74.6mph complemented by a 60-62mph. Defensively, he presented swift actions on the infield with a long loose arm. Gelling made noise at the plate driving balls to his pull-side while flashing a 90.4mph EV. The 2027 is a must follow going into the 2024 season.
