PBR Ontario Staff

On Thursday, August 17th, PBR Ontario hosted its third organizational Scout Day of the year, this time pairing up with the Windsor Selects program. The Windsor Selects Scout Day gave us a look at 24 players in the organization with players ranging from the 2024 - 2028 classes.

Scout Days allow our staff to get an in-depth look at players within a program, while allowing organizations to get complete metrics, testing, video and profiles for all of their players. Scout Days also provide an opportunity for players within the organization who attend to be invited to our marquee events such as the Future and Junior Future Games (Atlanta), West Coast Games (Las Vegas), New York State Games (Cortland, NY), NorthEast Senior Games (Cortland, NY) and the PBR Eastern Canada ProCase.

All players at the Windsor Selects Scout Day ran through a pro-style workout which included a 60-yard dash and splits via Swift Performance, defensive evaluation and velocities from all positions, as well as batting practice for hitters and bullpens for the arms while collecting data via TrackMan.

Below, we continue our post-event coverage with scouting notes and video on seven standouts from the event.

Trent Rudge RHP / 3B / Essex District , ON / 2025

2025 RHP/3B Trent Rudge showed significant improvements on the mound in Windsor. Standing at 6-foot, 215-pound Rudge has a physical presence on the mound and works with a 3-pitch mix of FB/SL/CH. The FB showcased notable improvements, sitting  86-88mph T89 (previously T86) paired with a SL that has the characteristics of a swing-and-miss pitch. Rudge has a quick, strong arm that operates from the ¾ slot and he showed good feel for the zone with all three pitches. An arm to keep tabs on in Ontario’s 2025 class as he continues to grow on the mound.

Gavin Campbell RHP / 1B / St. Anne Catholic, ON / 2025

2025 RHP/1B Gavin Campbell was a standout on both sides of the ball at Thursday's event in Windsor. The 6-foot, 185-pound two-way operates downhill from an over-the-top slot with a good feel for the zone. Campbell comes at you with a trio of pitches that all have different characeterics, FB has 22 inches of IVB with an effective and 98% spin efficiency and pairs it with a slider that tunnels off the FB and a CH. With the bat, Campbell has a line-drive approach that consistently works to the big part of the field. He posted a max exit velocity of 89mph with the ability to hit the ball north of 300 feet. Campbell also flashed his arm strength in the field, posting an 87mph infield velocity which was the second-best at the event.

Matthew Neufeld RHP / 3B / Cardinal Carter Catholic, ON / 2026

2026 RHP/3B Matthew Neufeld was another standout at Thursday’s event in Windsor. Physically advanced for his age with size and strength on the mound, standing at 6-foot-4, 205-pounds. The fastball sat 85-86 T87 with 2500+ rpm, paired with three off-speed pitches. Neufeld has a simple delivery that works downhill from an over-the-top slot and projects well on the mound with present stuff and more to come. Live arm across the infield working up to 88mph which was tops at the event. Also put together a good round of BP with the ability to drive the ball to pullside, but it’s his work his mound that will attract the attention of college coaches.

Nash Driedger OF / RHP / Essex District, ON / 2025

2025 OF/RHP Nash Driedger put together a solid overall day across the board and was a standout in all areas of his game. 5-foot-11, 155-pounds with strength to come and put together a good round of BP from the right-side with consistent barrels (60%) while lifting the ball to the pullside. His average distance of 246ft was third-best at the event, along with a peak exit velocity of 86.1mph. His 84mph arm in the outfield was top at the event and the arm strength translated to the mound. Right-handed pitcher with three-pitch mix and a fastball that sat 79-82mph and topped at 83mph. Showed feel for a knuckle-curve at 67-69mph and it’s a good splitter with heavy horizontal action (16.3 avg HM).

Deagan Barr SS / RHP / University Liggett, ON / 2026

Barr was a standout last month at the Junior Future Games in Atlanta and his overall game is rapidly trending upwards as he continues to mature. Tons of projection in his game at 6-foot-3, 160-pounds with athletic movements throughout his game. Looks to be more upside on the mound right now, a trend in the family as both his brothers have or will take the mound for the Michigan Wolverines. The fastball sat 79-82mph from a minimal effort delivery and pairs it with a quality high-spin curveball at 62-64mph (2425rpm) with two-plane look. Also flashed a changeup at 66-68mph. Barr excels at the shortstop position and was up to 83mph across the diamond. The right-handed hitter posted a peak exit velocity of 86.7mph and peak distance of 274ft.

Riley Wiebe 2B / OF / Leamington district , ON / 2024

2024 2B/OF Riley Wiebe had one of the more mature days among players in attendance which saw his metrics standout across the board. Right-handed hitter with bat speed and present strength at 5-foot-11, 195-pounds and was looking to lift the ball throughout his round. His peak exit velocity of 95.5mph (86.6 avg) and peak distance of 338ft (243 avg) were both tops at the event. Worked up to 81mph across the diamond and 83mph from the outfield. An unsigned senior who’s worth a look from junior college programs.
