Lightning upstages IHSBCA/Lawler title game thriller

By Drake Skleba

LISLE ? The 2011 Phil Lawler/IHSBCA Summer State Championship game was coming down to an electrifying conclusion. With Prairie Ridge and Lincoln-Way North knotted at 5-5 in the top of the seventh, Lincoln-Way North junior C Ryan Pellack singled to lead off the inning. Phoenix junior 1B Reed Hero strolled to the plate. Hero, whose scorching bat had led the Phoenix to the Lawler Classic championship game, was overdue.

At 9:45 p.m., Hero was upstaged by a great hitter in her own right, none other than Mother Nature.

Blessed with lightning speed, she displayed her electrifying effect on Benedictine University in Lisle. The Lightning Warning system in Lisle went off, putting a halt on the championship game. At 11:30, Reed Hero and the two teams would have to come back Friday afternoon at 2 o?clock.

The PBR will be back in Lisle on Friday, with we hope to be an electrifying conclusion, but not to the same magnitude as what we experienced on Thursday night. Come and see a state baseball championship be won, at Yackley and Maple in beautiful Lisle, at 2 pm.
