5/6/15 GAME NOTES: Indiana State commit worked 6 1/3 innings striking out eight and throwing 19 of 25 first pitch strikes. Fastball was 83-85 from 3/4 with easy effort. Featured two pitches extensively. The fastball and a breaking ball that flashed some late action with a near 12/6 shape at 67-69. Controlled at balance point with quick arm and athletic finish.
6/25/14: 6 foot – 195 pounds, 4.41-H-1st, 2.05-2.16 pop time. On the mound he throws his fastball 84-85 with a loose, easy ¾ arm delivery. Late breaking curveball (66-68). Athletic and throws two pitches for strikes. Above average catcher that moves well behind the plate, has above average feet with a quick exchange. Hits from a balanced stance with a short stride. Average bat speed, gap to gap type hitter. 2/22/14: 6-foot, 205 multi-positional athlete is athletic. Was 1.97-2.09 with his pop times at the event. Behind the plate shows a strong frame with good foundation. Possesses some arm strength at 77 mph. Exchange was quicker than it was at the Dec. showcase. Footwork needs some improvement along with his exchange, but projects well behind the plate at the next level. From 3B showcased soft hands with quick, fluid footwork. Plays through the baseball with athleticism. Showcased the ability to throw form multiple arm angles and was 81 mph across the infield with carry. Offensively, starts open and uses a long stride. Dives towards the baseball. At times changes eye level. Bat speed is quick with good lift. Gets to extension producing good power. Exit velo was 88 mph. Topped out at 83 on the mound. High follow in the 2015 class.
12/15/13:6-foot, 210 pound junior showed plus actions behind the plate. Possess a strong frame with good foundation. Above average arm strength at 77 mph. Pop times were 2.01-2.10. Footwork needs some improvement along with his exchange, but projects well behind the plate at the next level. At 3B showcased plus actions defensively. Hands are soft and moves well laterally. Ability to throw from multiple angles. Offensively, starts open with a long stride. Minimal load back with a big weight transfer going forward. Lower half works with good balance. Swing path is short and gets to extension producing gap-to-gap power with occasional HR power. Exit velo was 88 mph. High follow in the 2015 class.
2012: Burton possesses good size and some athleticism behind the plate. He has the ability to block the ball well and has a quick release producing pop times in the 1.98-2.2 range.
