2016 Team Ontario Future Game Spotlight: Meet The Team

From August 4th through August 6th, PBR Ontario will take a select team of players in the Classes of 2018 and 2019 to represent Ontario at the PBR Future Games in Westfield Indiana at Grand Park.

Players receive exposure unlike any other event for underclassmen. Last year, 100+ colleges from all over the country were in attendance, including coaches from every Division I power conference in the country. Only players who have a legitimate shot at being a Division I recruit and who have an interest in the possibility of making a verbal commitment during their sophomore or junior seasons have been considered.

The Position Players

Jaden Brown, SS, 2019
Background: Prep Baseball Report’s No. 2 overall prospect in the 2019 class, Brown is a 6-foot-1, 165-pound shortstop with electric tools, electric bat speed with power to the pull side. In the field shows some arm strength, ball carries across the diamond, will polish up his glove as he matures. Is expected to see action in the outfield as well this week.

Leo Markotic, 3B, 2019
Background: Listed at 5-foot-11, 185-pounds, Markotic is a strong, stocky third baseman with power tools. Strong, lean build that plays in games, raw power to all fields, doesn’t get cheated at the plate. Above average glove, good feel for his position, arm strength will come with age.

Daniel Carinci, 2B/SS, 2019
Background: Listed at 5-foot-10, 165-pounds, Carinci is a slick-fielding infielder that makes the routine plays, and the tough plays look easy. Plus arm arm strength from various arm slots, comfortable throwing on the run. At the plate has a quick bat, short to the ball, exhibits power to the opposite field when he gets hands extended. Will also see time at shortstop.

Dawson Walters, 1B, 2018
Background: At 6-3, 220-pounds, Walters has the ability to hit for power to all fields. Ball is loud off the bat, tends to be a free-swinger, will play some first base, could see time behind the plate, receives well, arm is a question mark.

Matt Jenkins, OF, 2018
Background: Listed at 6-foot-1, 205-pounds, Jenkins provides the power bat for the Ontario team in the outfield. Strong build, shows bat speed at the plate, power to the pull side. Makes the plays in the outfield, showcases average arm strength, is expected to see time at the corner outfield positions.

Blake Buckle, C, 2018
Background: A primary catcher, Buckle shows an advanced hitting approach with some pop from the left side, quiet stance, very loose which plays in games. Behind the plate shows good actions, arm strength isn’t there yet, will see time at first base as well.

David McCabe, 1B, 2018
Background: At 6-foot-3, 205-pounds, McCabe is the lone switch-hitter from the Ontario squad. The left side is his power side, showing good pop to all fields. From the right side tends to be a slap hitter with the ability to turn on the ball. Very comfortable actions in the field, will see some time at third base.

Denzel Clarke, OF, 2018
Background: 6-foot-2 160-pound outfielder who is a pure athlete. The son of former Olympic sprinter, he has the ability to cover his ground in the outfield to make the tough plays. At the plate is still very raw, shows some occasional pop, still needs to make adjustments but has come a long way in just one year.

Dasan Brown, OF, 2019
Background: Listed at 5-foot-9, 150-pounds, Brown is a dynamic outfielder with speed and above average arm strength. Ball, jumps out of his hand with accuracy. At the plate he’s still raw, bat speed isn’t there yet but finds a lot of barrel, plays to his speed, shows aggressiveness, and has a solid approach.

TJ Schofield, INF, 2019
Background: Young 2019 grad that displays power from the left-side of the plate. Ball is loud off the bat from the 5-foot-11, 175-pound infielder who will see time at third base, shortstop and in the outfield. Arm has strength and carry from left-side of the infield, actions will become smoother with more reps and development, chance to be a real dude with the tools at the plate.

Ryan Faragher, C, 2018
Background:
6-foot-2, 175-pound catcher with good actions and an advanced hitting approach. Faragher is very loose at the plate, quiet swing, shows power to the pull side. Receives well behind the plate, has the ability to shut down the running early.

The Pitchers

Thomas Murphy, RHP, 2018
Background: Right-hander, listed at 6-foot-3, 190-pounds. Physicality is there with room to add more. Strike thrower that has touched 86 mph and will throw both his breaking ball and changeup for strikes. Changeup is the currently the better pitch with feel and fade action. Will throw in game two for Ontario, 9:00am on Saturday.

Griffin Hassall, RHP, 2018
Background: Long and lean right-hander at 6-foot-2, 165-pounds. Projectable pitcher’s body, actions are clean and easy. Fastball has been in the low to mid-80s, can see that number increasing as he adds weight and strength. Proper spin on his curveball, strike thrower who knows how to pitch. Will start game one on Friday for Ontario Team.

Ryan Douglas, RHP, 2018
Background: Right-hander with bulldog mentality on the mound. 5-foot-11, 170-pounder who has been up to 85 mph this summer to go along with curveball, changeup repertoire. Curveball is more advanced than the changeup but will throw both for strikes and keeps down in zone. Not overpowering but will get outs, keep pitch count low and compete. Scheduled to be in relief game 1 on Friday.

Adam Parker, LHP, 2018
Background: 6-foot-1, 155-pound left-hander with lean, skinny frame, still undersized but profiles to be long and loose. Arm works well, clean in the back, can pitch to both sides of the plate with fastball that typically is in low-80s. Reminds us of lefty Matt Jones who went to the Minnesota Twins this year in the 28th round this year. Will be in relief for game 1 this week.

Evan Elliott, RHP, 2019
Background: Young right-hander who showed well at Future Game Trials. Overhand curveball that depth and late biting action with 11/5 shape. Arm works and shows some life. Big body with size at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds, velocity will increase as he matures, chance to be a good one as he develops. Will be in a relief role this week in game 3 on Saturday.

Jason Boulanger, LHP, 2018
Background: Left-hander listed at 5-foot-9, 160-pounds. Athletic movements and actions, deceptiveness is there, not a lot of good swings against him this summer, has been up to 85 mph. Downer curveball with 1/7 shape that he uses as an out pitch. Will start game 3 for Ontario this week.

Eric Cerantola, RHP, 2019
Background:
Big body and arm at 6-foot-5, 192-pounds, was injured earlier in the year with freak accident to finger in the batting cages, no complications and completely healthy. Was low-80s last year, 83-84 mph in February and apparently was up to 89 mph in Cincinnati two weeks ago, Will start game 2. Athleticism is there, top level hockey player as well.
