Preseason Favorite

McDowell (15-8)

The start of any new season is always filled with question marks, but the AAAA representative out of District 10 is usually not one of them. The McDowell Trojans have represented District 10 in post season play every year since 2008. The winner of the AAAA baseball title in District 10 is included in a sub-region alignment with District 8 and District 9. The winner of the sub-regional qualifies for the state tournament.

The Trojans are coming off a 15-8 campaign in which they knocked Central Tech 6-0 in the District 10 final, Perry Traditional Academy 16-0 in the sub-regional semi-final, and then fell to DuBois 8-3. DuBois moved on to the state tournament out of the sub-regional.

Key contributors gone from last year's roster are Brian Bohman (Penn State Behrend), Zack Borsa (Parkland CC, IL), Jake Suppa (Gannon) and Riley Warren. The Trojans will return a talented core of 11 varsity players from last year to make another run at the state tournament.

in the mix

Central Tech (4-12)

The Falcons return seven seniors and hope to build on last year's four win season. Central Tech lost in the District 10 title game 6-0 last year and will look to their junior class to help bolster the deep senior class.

Matt HansenPreseason Player of the Year

Matt Hansen, McDowell (Class of 2014)

Hansen hit .440 with two home runs and 17 RBI as a junior in 2013 earning a selection to the PHSBCA all-state team. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound middle infielder is ranked No. 87 in the PA Class of 2014 and will continue his baseball career at the University of Toledo next season.
