September 11, 2022
The Arizona Diamondbacks Scout team is back this fall, with a roster that will not disappoint. On Wednesday nights at Salt River Fields, the Dbacks will take on some of the top Junior Colleges that Arizona has to offer. The Arizona Prep Baseball Report staff will cover the top performers of the week, giving you an inside look at the future draft picks in the 2023-2025 classes.
Joshua Butler RHP / RHP / Sandra Day O'Connor, AZ / 2023
Rankings StateRank: 16 / POS: 6
6-foot-6 205 pound, Arizona State Commit had a dominant night on the mound for the Diamondbacks Scout team. Butler went 1 inning in fashion while striking out the side in a quick 1-2-3 inning . Butler has a tall lean build and does a nice job getting into his back side. With a high ¾ slot delivery, Butler has a quick arm and moves down the mound well. Butler’s FB sat 87-89 at the top of the zone with a SL mix that worked nicely off the FB’s plane keeping a good Chandler Gilbert team off balanced. Butler is currently the #16 ranked player in the state and #6 ranked at his position. Butler is a high follow for the Arizona staff, and we look forward to seeing his progression over the next 5 weeks with the Diamondbacks.

Cole Carlon LHP / 1B / Corona del Sol, AZ / 2023
6-foot-5 210 pound LHP and Arizona State commit had it rolling on wednesday night. In one inning pitched, Carlon’s FB sat 89-91 topping out at 92, which was the top velo on the night for the Dbacks squad. The lengthy lefty has a tall build with room for added strength and does a good job of using his lower half on the mound to generate power. On Wednesday night Carlon’s FB was working to both sides of the plate for strikes with slight arm side run, and a good mix of SL when needed. Carlon is a high follow for the Arizona staff as he goes into his fall season with the Mets scout team and Spring season at Corona Del Sol.

Bradyn Barnes LHP / 1B / Basha, AZ / 2023
6-foot-1 200 pound Arizona State commit Bradyn Barnes was lights out on Wednesday night, putting in 1 inning of work sitting 87-89. Barnes has room to add strength and size to his profile, however his smooth rhythm and mechanics puts him ahead of the rest. This week Barnes showcased an above average FB with some good ride, with his slider was working well sitting 75-77 with some significant bite keeping a good Chandler Gilbert team off balanced. Barnes went on to strike out his first batter faced, and produced two weakly hit balls that resulted in outs. Barnes is a high follow for the Arizona Staff as he is one of the top #20 prospects in the 2023 class.

Carson McEntire OF / 1B / Mountain Ridge, AZ / 2023
The 6-foot-1 190 pound Oregon State commit had a good night at the plate on Wednesday. Up against some of the better arms in the Juco circuit, McEntire had a Triple short hopping the CF wall to start off the inning for the Dbacks. McEntire is a high level prospect in the 2023 class that is creating some buzz for next year's MLB draft. The right handed hitter shows an easy leg lift load, gets on time well with high level bat to ball skills. McEntire is a sub 6.5 runner that translates to the bases and in the OF, with above average tracking skills. The Oregon State commit is a high follow for the Arizona staff as he goes into his senior season with a talented Mountain Ridge squad.

Andrew Cain 3B / OF / Ironwood Ridge, AZ / 2023
The 6-foot-2 190 pound Arizona Commit, had the loud knock on Wednesday night turing an inside FB over the right field wall. Cain’s long levers work well in the box with his hands working short to the ball and does a great job getting extension. In the infield, Cain has shown that his defense will be on the corners pending further development, with the possibility of transferring to the outfield as he gets to the higher levels. Cain is a high follow for the Arizona staff as we look forward to seeing his progression on Wednesday nights and senior season at Ironwood Ridge.

Brett Crossland RHP / RHP / Mountain Pointe, AZ / 2025The 6-foot-6 230 pound Uncommitted RHP is amongst the top uncommitted prospects across the entire country. On Wednesday night Crossland shined in one inning of work displaying a FB that ran 92-95 and touching 96 with slight ASR. On the night Crossland threw over 90% FB, and with a good hitting South Mountain team anticipating the heater, it still showed to be untouchable. While the FB was the talk of the night, Crossland’s high spin SL showed to be a plus pitch ranging from 78-80 with tight action breaking 11/5. Crossland is currently the #2 ranked player in the state and #1 ranked at his position. Crossland is a high follow for the Arizona staff, and we look forward to seeing him pitch in his last outing with the Diamondbacks Oct 12th.
